Verdict - AMD Zenbook S16 is an excellent everyday laptop
With the Zenbook S16, Asus continues to offer a high-quality and very slim 16-inch laptop for everyday use, which has been slightly improved for the 2026 model year. The new Ryzen AI 9 465 benefits from increased power limits in performance mode, but this comes at the cost of significantly louder fans. With the other two energy profiles, however, the notebook remains significantly quieter, and the performance is still perfectly adequate for everyday use.
The good input devices remain unchanged; the OLED screen now shines much brighter (especially in HDR) and supports touch input. Battery life has also improved, and the speakers are very good.
All in all, the Zenbook S16 is a great all-rounder if you are looking for a high-quality and slim companion for everyday use.
Pros
Cons
Asus has updated the Zenbook S16 for 2026 and is relying on the new AMD Ryzen 400 processors, a new OLED touchscreen, and a larger battery.
Specifications
Case & equipment
The casing has remained almost unchanged from its predecessor and continues to impress with its extremely thin and high-quality design. This time, our test device comes in dark gray, which looks very elegant. The lines on the display lid have been removed, and the Zenbook logo is now centered. In addition, the small ProArt logo has been moved from the area above the keyboard to the top right corner of the ClickPad. The slight creaking of the lid, which was still annoying on last year's model, is no longer an issue on the current version. The rest of the equipment corresponds to the Predecessor and the upgrade options are still limited to the SSD.

Input devices
The input devices also remain unchanged from the Predecessor. Despite the supposedly short stroke (1.1 mm), the typing feel is very good, and the large ClickPad is also fully convincing.
Display - Improved OLED
Asus now uses a different Samsung OLED screen that supports touch input. This results in a slightly grainier image, especially on bright surfaces, which did not exist on the old model. Apart from that, the picture quality is still excellent: perfect black levels, high contrast, and vibrant colors. Thanks to the 120 Hz refresh rate, movement is very smooth, and the PWM frequency has been doubled to 960 Hz, so there should be even fewer issues here.
The brightness has also been improved. In SDR mode, it is now just under 470 cd/m² and in HDR mode, up to 1,094 cd/m² are possible (full screen: 701 cd/m²), which is a massive improvement from its Predecessor (max. 525 cd/m²). The supplied color profiles are again very accurate, and image processing is possible without any problems. We were unable to improve the display with our own calibration.

The display backlight flickers at 960 Hz (worst case, e.g., utilizing PWM) Flickering detected at a brightness setting of 100 % and below. There should be no flickering or PWM above this brightness setting. The frequency of 960 Hz is quite high, so most users sensitive to PWM should not notice any flickering. In comparison: 53 % of all tested devices do not use PWM to dim the display. If PWM was detected, an average of 8082 (minimum: 5 - maximum: 343500) Hz was measured. | |||

Test conditions
Asus has changed the energy profiles and the associated power limits. While a maximum of 33 watts was previously possible, it is now 45/35 watts in the Performance profile. To get the maximum performance, we therefore ran the following benchmarks in the Performance profile. In everyday use, however, the other two modes (Whisper, Standard) are also perfectly adequate, and the fans remain significantly quieter under load.
Processor
In our CPU analysis, we have already taken an in-depth look at the new AMD Ryzen AI 9 465. Overall, there are only minor improvements over the previous Ryzen 300 series, and multi-core performance, in particular, remains competitive. The performance also remains fairly stable, both under continuous load and in battery mode.

GPU performance
The familiar Radeon 880M is once again used as the iGPU, which shows slightly improved performance in the benchmarks due to the higher power limits and the slightly faster RAM. However, the differences are not great, and not much has changed in gaming either. The GPU performance remains stable both under constant load and in battery mode.

Noise emissions
In Performance mode, the Zenbook S16 is very loud at around 50 dB(A), which is why you should only use this mode if you really need full power. The other two modes remain significantly quieter (Standard: max. 38.1 dB(A), Whisper: max. 29.6 dB(A)) and are therefore the better choice for everyday use. There were no other electronic noises.

Temperature
The case temperatures remain pleasantly cool in everyday use. In Performance mode under high load, we measured up to 46 °C on the underside, which is not yet critical. The processor briefly operates at 45 and then 35 watts before stabilizing at ~29 watts after around 5 minutes.
(±) The maximum temperature on the upper side is 43.4 °C / 110 F, compared to the average of 36.9 °C / 98 F, ranging from 21.1 to 71 °C for the class Multimedia.
(-) The bottom heats up to a maximum of 46.2 °C / 115 F, compared to the average of 39.2 °C / 103 F
(+) In idle usage, the average temperature for the upper side is 25.7 °C / 78 F, compared to the device average of 31.3 °C / 88 F.
(±) 3: The average temperature for the upper side is 35.6 °C / 96 F, compared to the average of 31.3 °C / 88 F for the class Multimedia.
(+) The palmrests and touchpad are cooler than skin temperature with a maximum of 29.9 °C / 85.8 F and are therefore cool to the touch.
(±) The average temperature of the palmrest area of similar devices was 28.7 °C / 83.7 F (-1.2 °C / -2.1 F).
