The Zenbook S 16 marks Asus' first Copilot+ laptop to be fitted with AMD's new Zen 5 mobile processors. Adding to this is a 1.3-cm-flat case as well as a brilliant 120-Hz OLED display. Has this already made the Snapdragon laptops obsolete after only one month?
Together with its new Zen 5 mobile processors, AMD has updated its integrated graphics card as well. Top-of-the-range models such as the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 make use of the new Radeon 890M. We have performed a detailed analysis of this new iGPU inside a variety of laptops.
Around one month after the launch of Qualcomm’s latest ARM chips, AMD has now release its new Zen 5 mobile processors codenamed Strix Point. We tested out the new Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 with various TDPs.

The Zenbook line has frequently offered some high-quality laptops, and the new Asus Zenbook S 16 is no exception - great all-rounder performance, reasonable pricing, and a fantastic physical design meld together to form a laptop that almost reaches perfection. It only falls short of a five-star rating due to its middling battery life, but even then, it's still capable of powering through a full workday without issues.

I recommend the Asus Zenbook S 16 to users who want a premium, lightweight laptop that transports well and has a gorgeous OLED display. Visual creatives, in particular, will gravitate toward this device. AMD's next-gen chipset provides solid performance but falls short of running as cool as other processors on the market, and its battery life is not the best. The laptop's price starts at $1,399. It is a little expensive, although I'd argue it's well-priced for what you're getting. If you want something more budget-friendly, check out the Asus Vivobook Pro 15, which is currently on sale for $1,299.

If you are looking for a laptop with great performance skills, stylish and good battery backup, the Asus ZenBook S16 is a solid choice. While it has its demerits, the list of Pros is much longer. At Rs 1,49,900, the laptop is on the expensive side, but also delivers all premium specs and features. It offers top-notch performance, giving a tough competition to Apple’s M3 MacBook Air.

In conclusion, a recommendation: If you’re choosing your next laptop and deciding between a modern, sleek, and energy-efficient ultrabook and a powerful, yet outdated gaming laptop, take the time to analyze the real reason behind your purchase. Open all the programs you regularly use at once, check how much RAM is occupied, how much video memory is being used, and what SSD capacity you need. Consider whether you’ll need to buy a USB4 hub, plus a discrete GPU with an external power supply. Think about whether you need DLSS or if FSR will suffice. Answer these questions for yourself, and it will make the decision process much easier. As for me, yes, RAM has determined my choice. For now, I’m sticking with the ASUS ROG Scar 15 G533QS. FOR NOW. The ASUS ZenBook S 16 UM5606, however, made me think about an external GPU and analyze RAM usage in my daily life (again, thanks to Goodram). The point is, I’m already starting to save up for an upgrade to the ASUS ZenBook S 16 with the AMD Strix Halo and 64GB of RAM.

The Zenbook S 16 is a high-performance laptop that balances sleek design, robust performance, and exceptional battery life. While its Rs 1,49,990 price tag is steep, it justifies the cost with its premium build quality, impressive display, and strong overall package. For those seeking a Windows alternative to Apple’s MacBook Pro, the Zenbook S 16 is a worthy contender. While the change in RAM modules may seem frustrating to guys like me, ASUS offers 32GB of LPDDR5X RAM, which is more than sufficient for most productivity tasks, creative workflows, and light gaming. If you prioritise portability, capable performance, and good battery life in a premium laptop, the Zenbook S 16 stands out as one of the best options in its class.

This Asus Zenbook S 16 OLED UM5606 excels as a daily driver laptop for casual use, browsing, streaming, Office work, and light to medium multitasking. It is, however, mostly a large-screen ultrabook, so don't expect it to match the performance of thicker, yet still portable, all-purpose devices, despite implementing an excellent AMD Ryzen AI hardware platform. Nonetheless, as long as you're OK with that and can accept its particular design quirks, this could be a solid option for you.

After using a M1 MacBook Pro as my daily driver for over three years, the Zenbook S 16 makes me think it may be time to return to a Windows laptop soon. Its AMD AI CPU is powerful enough to handle everyday productivity tasks without breaking a sweat. Its 3K 120Hz display is stunning and looks great for working during the day and watching media. Its Ceralumium design is unique, lightweight, and looks as great as it feels. And all these features help improve the Windows 11 user experience. It almost felt strange to return to my Macbook Pro after using it for so long, especially since I also use a Windows 11 desktop at home. The battery life isn’t as good as that of the Snapdragon X Windows 11 laptops.

I recommend the Asus Zenbook S 16 to users who want a premium, lightweight laptop that transports well and has a gorgeous OLED display. Visual creatives in particular, will gravitate toward this device. AMD's next-gen chipset provides solid performance, but it falls short in running as cool as other processors on the market, and its battery life is not the best. Prices for the laptop start at $1,399. It is a little expensive, although I'd argue it's well-priced for what you're getting. If you want something more budget friendly, check out the Asus Vivobook Pro 15 which is currently on sale for $899 ($400 off the regular price).

Frankly, I was taken aback by the ZenBook S 16. I did not expect a 16-inch Windows notebook powered by a traditional chip to be as slim, light, and portable as the MacBook Air. That alone is a major selling point, given that the AMD-powered notebook falls right in between a MacBook Air and a MacBook Pro. This isn’t a perfect machine, though. Its size and performance give the ZenBook S 16 an edge over the competition, even though the battery life may not surpass that of notebooks from Qualcomm and Apple.

The Asus Zenbook S 16 (2024) might just be my favourite laptop of 2024. Asus’ latest ultrabook simply packs everything you could want in a Windows laptop and takes it to Apple with a package that’s both stylish and has an awful lot of power. The Ryzen 9 AI HX 370 is one of the best laptop chips we’ve tested, achieving high-riding scores in benchmarks and helping the Zenbook S 16 feel responsive in day-to-day use, too. In addition, its 3K 120Hz OLED panel offers the sacred blend of being responsive and detailed with gorgeous colours and contrast, as well as deep blacks. The 78Whr battery inside also offers solid endurance, too. Where competitors such as the Dell XPS 14 (2024) have caveats such as a shorter battery life or weaker performance, the Zenbook S 16 (2024) doesn’t.

The Asus Zenbook S 16 is a stellar laptop that shines with its exceptional performance, productivity, and battery life, making it an ideal choice for creators and design professionals. The AMD Ryzen AI 300 series platform is the driving force behind this excellence, delivering unparalleled performance and efficiency. While the laptop’s 16-inch form factor may not be the most compact, its lightweight design and gorgeous 3.2K OLED display make it a versatile work-and-play companion. However, we wish the display was brighter to mitigate reflections. The Ryzen AI 300 platform’s impressive performance and efficiency pose a significant challenge to Qualcomm and Intel, especially in AI and graphics performance.

The Asus Zenbook S16 UM5606 has the makings of a great laptop, from its incredible performance and graphics to its long battery life and stellar design. However, our connection with laptops starts with the keyboard and touchpad. Unfortunately, it’s not very good here. If you’re looking for a better input experience, you can try the MacBook Air 15. The Zenbook S16 does beat it in performance, but the MacBook offers much longer battery life, a brighter display, and a more comfortable keyboard and touchpad. However, for those who plan on using a discrete keyboard or are willing to get used to the Zenbook’s ergonomics, it’s a great choice as an AI powerhouse.

Now that we've seen Intel's 'Meteor Lake' Core Ultra CPUs and Qualcomm's Snapdragon X Series, it's AMD's turn in the AI PC spotlight with its Ryzen AI 300 series processors, and the Ryzen 9 HX 370. AMD's first efforts in this sphere – the Ryzen Pro 7000 and 8000 series processors – were underwhelming, with performance from the chips' dedicated Neural Processing Unit (NPU) topping out at a mere 16 Tera Operations per Second (TOPS). That's substantially lower than the 40 TOPS required for Microsoft's Copilot+ PCs, and weedy compared to the 45 TOPS of the Hexagon NPU in the Snapdragon X Elite. The Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 promises significant improvements, with its NPU dishing out up to 50 TOPS.

The ASUS Zenbook S 16 (UM5606) combines tons of processing and AI power thanks to the all-new AMD Zen 5 CPUs with a dedicated NPU. Despite the thin profile, the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 can sustain a 28W power limit plus ~2.70 GHz / 1.80 GHz clock for performance and efficient cores in long loads which is a good result for a machine that weighs a kilo and a half. The AMD Radeon 890M can show more than 40 FPS on Ultra details in games such as Far Cry 6 and Gears 5 which is a respectable score for an iGPU. The comfort under load is surprisingly good. The keyboard doesn’t feel too hot to the touch even when the CPU is loaded at 100% and the fans aren’t intrusive when the “Full-speed mode” or “Performance mode” mode is applied.

Not all Copilot+ PCs are the same, and the Asus Zenbook S 16 proves that. AMD Ryzen AI 9 beats Snapdragon X Elite and Apple silicon in some areas like graphics and app compatibility, and the delicious design paired with stellar ergonomics make this a solid laptop. But it's high heat and lower power efficiency make a strong case for Arm being the real future of Windows laptops — not x86.

If you want a truly unique Ultrabook that's worth the cost of entry, the Asus Zenbook S 16 is shaping up to be a worthy investment. It's been rebuilt with an all-new material that blends lightweight and sturdy, the touchpad comes with Smart Gesture, it has a great display, and the port selection is solid. It also features an AI processor, though we don't know its full potential as of now.

It also features an AI processor, though we don't know its full potential as of now.

Unboxing Asus' Zenbook S16 (2024), an impressively skinny 16-inch laptop boasting AMD Strix Point smarts and a gorgeous OLED display. This fresh performance notebook is about as compact as a 16-incher could possibly be, but the Zenbook S16 certainly doesn't skimp on performance or battery life. This is a pre-production sample so I can't benchmark or test the gaming chops properly, but here's an idea of what to expect from the retail model. Full review hopefully soon! Creators will enjoy the colour accurate OLED screen on the Asus Zenbook S16, as well as that AMD Strix Point power. You've also got an excellent keyboard and some nifty AI features, ideal for video chatting and security purposes.

While there’s no question that the ZenBook S 16 is one of the slimmest and lightest 16-inch laptops on the market, we’re unsure about its real-life performance and its implementation of AI workflows. Everything looks good on paper so far–but things may change when it comes to real-life use. There’s also a concern regarding pricing: the starting price of the ZenBook S 16 is $1399 or around Php 83k converted–but that’s for the lower-end version with a Ryzen AI 9 365 processor, 24GB RAM, and 1 TB storage. We’ll not be surprised if the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 hits the six-digit mark, but we hope ASUS gives it a competitive price once it arrives in the Philippines.

Asus doubled down on the ubiquity of AI at Computex 2024, launching laptops, portable PCs, and even its own software to take advantage of the current AI wave. Most notably, the computer company revealed a major expansion to its popular Zenbook range, with both an S 14 and S 16 model on the way. Following Microsoft’s recent Copilot+ PC push with Qualcomm, Asus revealed its Snapdragon-powered Vivobook S 15. It’s the brand’s first device that’ll gain access to new features like Recall from the outset. Meanwhile, Asus’ AMD and Intel laptops will gain Copilot+ functionality via a free post-launch update.

AI might be the mot du jour at Computex 2024 (and every other launch event), but when it comes to producing a high-quality laptop, it’s the engineering that matters and, in this respect, the Asus Zenbook S 16 looks to have it nailed. We’ll have to see how the new AMD chips stack up when it comes to performance and battery life, but physically at least, this laptop hits the sweet spot. It has a large, practical display; it’s light and slim, yet stiff and robust feeling; and it looks the absolute business. I can’t wait to get one in for testing.

Positive: Beautiful OLED display; comfortable keyboard; large touchpad; slim size; light weight; powerful hardware; metal case. Negative: Only 16GB RAM.

AMD is only cautiously updating its mobile processors for 2026. Apart from a slightly higher clock rate, support for faster RAM, and faster NPUs, the new Gorgon Point CPUs do not differ from last year's Strix Point models, so Zen 5 cores and the familiar RDNA 3.5 iGPUs are still used.
Asus updates its slim 16-inch Zenbook S16 with new AMD Gorgon Point CPUs and an OLED touchscreen. The result is an extremely stylish and high-quality everyday computer with good performance and long battery life.

At the end of the day, the ASUS Zenbook S16 UM5606GA is one of those laptops that's annoyingly easy to like. It looks stunning, feels ridiculously light for a 16-inch machine, has a drop-dead OLED, strong CPU grunt, and an iGPU that low-key overachieves. Sure, there are tiny nitpicks, but nothing that ruins the experience. At Rs 1.7 lakh, this isn't an impulse buy, though. It's built for creators, professionals, and business folks who want something classy, powerful, and portable without lugging around a chunky gaming brick. If that sounds like the vibe, this laptop fits like a tailored suit. As for alternatives… It's honestly a pretty small club. You've got the older Dell 16 Premium, which costs way more, and the newer Dell XPS 16 is yet to come.

The Asus Zenbook S 16 (2026) is a lovely Windows ultrabook with a fantastic OLED screen, a stylish chassis and decent performance from the new AMD processor inside. It’s more of a refinement over its predecessor, though, which means some tradeoffs in design and endurance, but the older model still has the lead in some respects. Against the Zenbook S 16 (2024), this new model has a brighter and even sharper OLED panel, and a more refined look than some prefer, although the performance isn’t too much improved, and the battery life of the 2026 model is actually worse. In some respects, the Panther Lake-powered Samsung Galaxy Book6 Pro is a better buy with much stronger endurance, a fair bit more raw power and a MacBook Pro-inspired finish. It is a bit more expensive, though. For more options, check out our list of the best laptops we’ve tested.

This range for display formats was and is a rarity. It is larger than the general standard of 15 inches, but not yet in the range of large workstations. One usually has higher screen resolutions available, but portability suffers from that.
