IdeaPad 5 2-in-1 14AHP9 convertible review: One of Lenovo's cheapest is also its fastest
Verdict — Lots Of Performance For Cheap
The latest IdeaPad 5 2-in-1 14 is one of the fastest in its size category all thanks to the Ryzen 7 8845HS CPU. If you're looking to maximize performance-per-dollar for your next 14-inch convertible, then look no further than this Lenovo.
There are a handful of cut corners, of course. As a budget convertible, the mostly plastic chassis doesn't feel as strong or luxurious as a higher-end Yoga model. This is amplified further by the subpar IPS touchscreen which lacks the deep colors, HDR playback, and high brightness levels of costlier alternatives. Support for full-length 2280 M.2 SSDs has also been dropped while both speakers and fan noise are underwhelming and loud under load, respectively. If such features are important, then you'll want to consider spending more on something like the Asus ZenBook Flip 14 or HP Spectre x360 14. Otherwise, the IdeaPad 5 2-in-1 14 offers an OLED option at the very least to address some of these shortcomings.

Details here
The IdeaPad 5 2-in-1 14AHP9 succeeds last year's IdeaPad Flex 5 14IRU8. Not only is Lenovo dropping the "Flex" name for the more understandable "2-in-1", but the newer model also sports AMD Ryzen HS-series processors instead of the much slower Intel Core-U series.
Our test unit comes equipped with the Zen 4 Ryzen 7 8845HS and 1920 x 1200p IPS touchscreen for approximately $820 retail. Other SKUs may come with the Ryzen 5 8645HS or 1200p OLED touchscreen instead. The 8 or 16 GB of LPDDR5x-6400 RAM is fixed.
Competitors in this space include other affordable to midrange 14-inch convertibles like the HP Pavilion x360 14, Dell Inspiron 14 7445 2-in-1, or Acer Aspire 5 Spin 14.

Case
Externally, the 2024 model shares the same design as the 2023 and 2022 models including even the ports. We recommend checking out our reviews on the 2023 and 2022 versions to learn more about the physical features of our 2024 model.
Connectivity
Port options remain the same save for the lack of Thunderbolt support that was available on last year's Intel-powered model.

Webcam
The 2 MP webcam remains unchanged.
Maintenance
The bottom panel pops off easily provided you have a Torx screwdriver. The internals are quite different than before as shown by the shots below. Most notably, the shape of the battery has changed and the system no longer supports full length 2280 M.2 SSDs. Instead, shorter 2242 drives are supported.
Sustainability
The packaging consists of mostly cardboard with a bit of plastic wrapping. Lenovo claims 90% percent of the plastic came from recycled sources during production.
Accessories And Warranty
There are no extras in the box other than the paperwork and AC adapter. A one-year manufacturer warranty applies if purchased in the US.
Display
The base IPS panel is one of the weaker aspects of our IdeaPad due to its limited sRGB reproduction and meager 60 Hz refresh rate. We recommend upgrading to the OLED panel for its deeper colors if you plan on doing a lot of picture editing.
The IPS display supports FreeSync to reduce tearing when gaming.

The panel is poorly calibrated out of the box. Calibrating it ourselves with an X-Rite colorimeter would improve average grayscale and color deltaE values from 7.5 and 8.03 to just 0.5 and 2.22, respectively. Our calibrated ICM profile is available to download above for free.

Performance
Testing Conditions
We set both Lenovo Vantage and Windows to Performance mode prior to running the benchmarks below.
Processor
The Ryzen 7 8845HS is very fast especially for the 14-inch convertible category. In fact, our system outperforms nearly all other 14-inch convertibles currently in our database regardless of price as shown by our benchmark results below. The Lenovo Yoga 9 2-in-1 14IMH9, for example, is significantly more expensive and yet raw multi-thread performance is within 5 percent of our IdeaPad.
Performance would drop by about 14 percent after 8 or 9 loops into our CineBench R15 xT stress test. Even so, the system remains extremely fast considering the form factor.

DPC Latency
LatencyMon reveals only minor DPC issues when opening multiple browser tabs of our homepage. 4K video playback at 60 FPS is otherwise excellent with just one dropped frame recorded during the start of the test.

Storage Devices
Our unit ships with the SK Hynix HFS001TEJ4X112N which is faster than the Samsung PM9B1 in last year's model by about 1.5x. However, read rates would curiously drop to ~1700 MB/s midway into our DiskSpd loop test before quickly recovering to ~4900 MB/s even after several repeat tests. This is more likely a bug than a performance throttling issue.
