Lenovo has recently launched its budget 16-inch convertible the IdeaPad 5 2-in-1 16IAL10 as a less expensive alternative to the Yoga 7 2-in-1 16. The model is notable for offering Intel Arrow Lake-U processor options for up to $1100 for the Core Ultra 7 255U configuration. The problem, however, is that competition is extremely fierce at the moment particularly from HP.
Currently, the HP OmniBook X Flip 16 with Core Ultra 7 256V CPU and 1800p OLED touchscreen can be found for $950 on HP.com (or $1300 if not on sale) while the same model with the Core Ultra 5 and 1200p IPS touchscreen can be found for $650 (or $900 if not on sale). At $1100, the Lenovo model with the Core Ultra 7 255U and 1200p IPS touchscreen doesn't stand a chance against the HP options. Not only is the HP thinner and lighter, but it offers much faster NPU and GPU performance over the Lenovo as well. The color and resolution advantages are even greater if considering the HP OLED configuration which still manages to come in cheaper than the Lenovo model when on sale.
One specific area where the IdeaPad 5 2-in-1 16IAL10 comes out ahead is in raw processor performance as the Core Ultra 7 255U is a decent boost over the previous generation Core Ultra 7 155U. The delta is wide enough that it overtakes the Core Ultra 7 256V albeit by somewhat narrow margins. The integrated NPU and GPU are much faster with the Lunar Lake processor as mentioned above and so the HP options are looking much stronger than Lenovo at the moment.
