In our review of the ThinkPad X1 Fold 16, we praised its spacious 16-inch screen and folding design that travelers can certainly appreciate. On the other hand, the system heavily relies on at least three individual accessories to be any useful as a Windows PC including an external keyboard, external mouse, and a kickstand folio carrying case that can ultimately feel cumbersome when added together despite the sleek folding design. If no external mouse is available, then full screen mode becomes almost impossible to use.
Enter the new 14-inch ThinkBook Plus Gen6 rollable which utilizes a 14-inch OLED screen that can extend to 16.7-inch inches on demand. Unlike the ThinkPad X1 Fold 16, the ThinkBook rollable looks and feels like a traditional clamshell laptop complete with an integrated keyboard and a physical clickpad. It's therefore more familiar, less cumbersome, and arguably more ergonomic than the ThinkPad foldable in most scenarios especially for applications that benefit from the tall Portrait orientation.
Of course, the ThinkPad foldable has one notable advantage over the ThinkBook rollable: Touchscreen support. Even so, the touchscreen experience on Windows 11 is notoriously poor meaning it's a relatively small tradeoff for the more straightforward ThinkBook rollable user experience.
