Verdict — Basic Gaming With None Of the Fluff
The budget-oriented Lenovo LOQ Essential 15 gets it right when it comes to performance and aesthetics. More specifically, instead of cutting corners on CPU and GPU options, it cuts around them by excluding secondary features like RGB lighting, G-Sync, Advanced Optimus, clickpad size, webcam quality, OLED, and Thunderbolt all of which are arguably less important for gaming than the processors themselves.
While the cut features are reasonable, they are nevertheless noticeable. The lack of Advanced Optimus and G-Sync, for example, impact battery life and screen tearing, respectively. More demanding enthusiasts or content creators may scoff at the relatively low ~55 W TGP target and lack of HDR support or P3 colors that are otherwise standard on higher-end models like the Legion Pro 5 16. Fan noise is also quite loud at 50 dB(A) which is the range where headphones are recommended. For the majority of casual gamers, however, the LOQ Essential 15 may be "just right" given the price and omissions.
Pros
Cons
Not to be confused with the slightly more expensive Lenovo LOQ 15, the Lenovo LOQ Essential 15 is an even cheaper model for students or gamers on tighter budgets. The system tops out at the GeForce RTX 5060 GPU, 1080p 144 Hz IPS display, and a last generation Core i7-13650HX Raptor Lake CPU.
Our test unit is the higher-end configuration with the aforementioned specifications for approximately $1650. It's worth noting that while our specific test unit has been configured with 16 GB of single-channel RAM, a second module can be easily added for dual-channel performance.
Competitors include other budget-oriented gaming laptops like the HP Victus 15, MSI Cyborg 15, or the Acer Nitro V 15.

Specifications
Case
The main immediate differences between the LOQ Essential 15 and the standard LOQ 15 are the aspect ratio (16:9 vs. 16:10) and smaller arrow keys. There are also minor differences in port options, but the base chassis materials and impressions are otherwise quite similar.
Connectivity
Communication
Wi-Fi 6E or faster is only optional on some configurations.
