New Intel Rocket Lake PassMark single-thread results present mixed fortunes against AMD Ryzen 5000 leaving a heavy burden for Alder Lake

PassMark’s CPU Mark single-thread performance chart for desktop processors now features a few more new Intel Rocket Lake chips, which have offered up a mixed bag of results. While the Intel Core i9-11900K still reigns and the i9-11900KF has performed well, both AMD’s Ryzen 5000 and Apple’s M1 have remained steadfast.

DDR5 RAM modules get first green light for mass production in China

Chinese memory module producer Jiahe Jinwei is among the first to receive DDR5 chip shipments from Micron for implementation. SK Hynix and Samsung are expected to begin shipping their DDR5 chips soon, as well. By the end of 2021, we should be seeing a decent selection of DDR5 modules for the Intel Alder Lake-S processors.

M1 PassMark promotion over Intel Core i7-11700K clarifies the damage Apple Silicon has done to Rocket Lake

The Apple M1 8-core chip has finally managed to leapfrog the Intel Core i7-11700K in PassMark’s CPU Mark chart for single-thread performance in desktop processors. This leaves only the top-end Rocket Lake i9-11900K ahead of the Apple Silicon. While the i9-11900K has an MSRP of US$539, an M1 Mac mini with 8 GB RAM and 256 GB storage costs from US$699.

Is Intel looking to release the DG2 in the second half of 2021? (Image Source: Intel)

Intel DG2 (Xe-HPG) flagship GPU tested in Geekbench along with 16-core Alder Lake-S CPU

The Geekbench OpenCL tests reveal a few new specs for both the GPU and the CPU, but the actual results appear to be too low to reflect the performance of the final product. Intel is probably testing the stability of the chips, as the drivers are not optimized enough for now.

The Intel Alder Lake-S chip seemingly crashed and burned on UserBenchmark...but there are likely reasons behind the fail. (Image source: Intel/sdevil - edited)

Intel Alder Lake-S sample crashes and burns on UserBenchmark with a 0.8 GHz clock and puny bench but AMD fans shouldn't celebrate just yet

An Intel Alder Lake-S processor has been spotted being tested on UserBenchmark, where it recorded an average boost rate of 0.8 GHz and was awarded with a 24.9% average bench. But before AMD fans start celebrating the untimely demise of Alder Lake, it seems likely that the 12th Gen chip’s hybrid architecture is fudging the numbers.

Leak reveals solid performance gains for the upcoming Intel Alder Lake laptop and desktop processors, likely not enough to beat AMD Zen3+

Sources close to Moore's Law Is Dead claim that the Alder Lake-U CPUs with up to 6 big cores and 8 little cores can deliver double the multi-core performance of current Tiger Lake-U models, and the single-core Alder Lake performance should be 20% better, as well. The top desktop Alder Lake CPUs with 8 big cores and 8 little cores may thus beat AMD's Ryzen 9 5900X models in multi-core loads.
