MINISFORUM MSS-A156 debuts as QHD 144Hz portable monitor with touchscreen and 3.5mm jack
MINISFORUM may be best known for its mini-PCs; however, the OEM has also made it known that it is breaking into full-screen devices too. The latest of these is not its upcoming Surface Pro-series rival, although it might be interesting for those who spend a lot of time with mobile tech nonetheless.
Portable monitors have historically stuck with standard 60Hz refresh rates, regardless of how modern; however, options that go up as far as 144Hz are fast emerging on the market. Unlike most of the examples found on Amazon, however, MINISFORUM markets its inaugural MSS-A156 as a touchscreen monitor with these specs.
The OEM also asserts that its 15.6-inch 2560x1440 display is of decent quality too, with a contrast ratio of 1000:1, 178° viewing angles and 100% of the DCI-P3 color gamut (whereas its competitors might get 100% sRGB at best) , although it could be brighter at 400 nits.
The MSS-A156 is also touted as being ultra-slim with a height of 4.4mm at its narrowest port, although it inflates a little towards its base to accommodate its controls and ports. They include dual USB-Cs (1 to connect the monitor to its compatible smartphone, laptop or other device and a spare for a variety of functions); mini-HDMI (although it comes with some potentially problem-solving cables in the box); a 3.5mm jack and...microUSB(?!).
The portable monitor also comes with a magnetic stand that supports use in portrait or landscape mode and its own 30W power brick. It has debuted on MINISFORUM's EU web-store at an introductory price of €209 (~$227, or €50 off its MSRP).
