Verdict — Excels In Almost Every Aspect
When the original OmniBook Ultra 14 launched in 2024 to replace the Spectre series, we lauded its performance and quality but criticized its 60 Hz IPS display and relatively large size. For 2026, the model has been wholly redesigned with 120 Hz OLED for all configurations and a noticeably sleeker look to be more competitive against alternatives like the Dell XPS 14 or Asus ExpertBook Ultra. HP knocked it out of the park with nearly all the changes as the uptick in rigidity and quality can easily pass as a flagship EliteBook model.
There are nonetheless certain aspects that could be improved upon. Most notably, the revised keyboard feels unnecessary as the keyboards on existing EliteBook and OmniBook models are otherwise excellent or at least more than satisfactory. Characteristics like travel, feedback, and clatter are not necessarily any better on the new OmniBook and so the change to the typing experience feels questionable.
Performance-wise, the Core Ultra X9 is very efficient but otherwise underperforming on the HP as competing models with the Core Ultra X7 can run faster. The manufacturer unfortunately offers no configurations with the Core Ultra X7 which would have lowered prices without impacting performance. Beyond the few setbacks, the 2026 OmniBook Ultra 14 is one of the best HP subnotebooks regardless of series if you can swallow the high ~$2500 asking price. Alternatively, users who want the new design and display but without the impressive Arc B390 iGPU can opt for the lesser Core Ultra 7 configuration for almost half the price.
Pros
Cons
Price and Availability
HP is now shipping the OmniBook Ultra 14 with Core Ultra X9 as reviewed for $2800. A lesser version with the Core Ultra 7 is also available for $1300 to $1800.
Unveiled in January, the OmniBook Ultra 14 has been fully refreshed this year with both new CPU options and a new chassis design. Users can select between Qualcomm Snapdragon X2 and Intel Panther Lake processors alongside one of three color choices depending on the configuration.
Our test unit is the higher-end Intel version with the Core Ultra X9 388H CPU for approximately $2800 USD. A slower version with the Core Ultra 7 368H is available for about half the price, but all options ship with the same 1800p 120 Hz OLED touchscreen including even the Qualcomm SKUs.
Competitors in this space include other flagship 14-inch prosumer laptops like the Dell XPS 14, Asus ExpertBook Ultra, MSI Prestige 14 AI, and the Lenovo Yoga Slim 7 Ultra 14.

Specifications
Case
The OmniBook series effectively replaces the Spectre series and so the metal chassis reflects the same excellent properties as its predecessor including the strong rigidity and roughened anti-fingerprint surfaces. The new design is instantly differentiated from the older 2024 model by the reimagined keyboard, redesigned rear corners, and the sharper chrome-cut profile along the edges and corners. It is also noticeably lighter and smaller than the 2024 model as shown by the comparison chart below.
Connectivity
The latest OmniBook drops the USB-A port that was present on some older models.
Communication
Webcam
5 MP webcam with IR and physical shutter come standard.

Maintenance
Sustainability
Chassis consists of up to 80 percent recycled metal and over 40 percent post-consumer recycled plastics for the keyboard and speaker enclosures. The packaging itself utilizes no plastics.
Accessories And Warranty
The retail box includes no extras beyond the AC adapter and paperwork. The usual one-year limited warranty applies if purchased in the US.
Input Devices
Keyboard
The keyboard has been redesigned from last year's model even though it was already excellent with great feedback and travel. Unfortunately, the new keyboard is spongier and so it doesn't feel like an improvement at all.
Display
The pre-calibrated OLED touchscreen addresses our main complaint about the 2024 model: refresh rate. At 120 Hz, the system now feels buttery smooth when compared to the older 60 Hz panel. Other aspects have been improved across the board including the move from IPS to OLED, deeper colors and brighter HDR support, and a higher native resolution.

Performance
Testing Conditions
We set the built-in HP software to Performance mode prior to running the benchmarks below.
Processor Performance
The Core Ultra X9 388H in the HP runs slower than expected by about 5 to 10 percent. In fact, the Asus ExpertBook Ultra runs roughly 10 percent faster despite it carrying the lesser Core Ultra X7 358H. The performance deficit can be partly attributed to the limited Turbo Boost potential of the OmniBook Ultra 14; performance would drop by about 9 percent over time when running CineBench R15 in a loop as shown by the comparison graph below.
The Ryzen AI 9 HX 375 in the 2024 OmniBook offers faster raw multi-thread performance by about 20 to 25 percent.

GPU Performance
While raw CPU performance is slower than the AMD-powered 2024 OmniBook Ultra 14, graphics performance is significantly faster to make up for the processor deficit. The Arc B390 runs up to 2x faster than the Radeon 890M to be able to comfortably play modern demanding titles at 1080p.
Frame rates when gaming would unfortunately fluctuate instead of remaining steady. When idling on Cyberpunk 2077 at 1080p Ultra settings, for example, frame rates would range between 39 FPS and 44 FPS compared to a flat 28 FPS on the 2024 OmniBook Ultra 14.
Overall performance is reduced if running on Balanced mode or on battery power as shown by our Fire Strike results table below.

System Noise
Fan noise would reach a similar ceiling as on previous models like the OmniBook Ultra 14 Flip or original 2024 OmniBook Ultra 14 and so the latest model isn't technically any louder or quieter. However, the fans would ramp up more quickly in response to loads and therefore reach maximum RPM sooner.

Stress Test
The CPU would boost to 2.9 GHz, 43 W, and 86 C when initiating Prime95 stress before dropping to 2.1 GHz, 26 W, and 71 C approximately 30 seconds later to suggest limited Turbo Boost sustainability. The new XPS 14, which ships with similar Panther Lake CPU options, would also stabilize at similar levels.
GPU clock rates when running Cyberpunk 2077 would cycle between 1750 to 2200 MHz even when set to Performance mode which correlates with the fluctuating frame rates as noted in the GPU Performance section above. Steadier clock rates would have been preferable for more stable gaming performance as the cycling clock rates are uncommon on other laptops.

Energy Management
Power Consumption
Consumption when under load is only a few watts more than on the OmniBook Ultra 14 Flip while offering significantly improved CPU and GPU performance. The gains in performance-per-watt are massive when jumping from Lunar Lake to Panther Lake-X9.
The 65 W AC adapter has also been upgraded to be smaller and more portable than before (6.5 x 3.2 x 3.2 cm vs. 9.8 x 5.4 x 2 cm).
