Verdict: What the Lenovo ThinkPad P14s should have been from the start
Last year's ThinkPad P14s Gen 5 Intel was already a great addition to the lineup. The new Lenovo ThinkPad P14s Gen 6 Intel is even better, mainly thanks due to Intel's newer Arrow Lake CPUs, but also the newer Nvidia RTX Pro Blackwell GPUs: Performance is up, but efficiency is too, which means the laptops runs cooler, quieter and the battery lasts longer.
That makes the Lenovo laptop a great example of how you iterate on a product: Build on its strengths and work on its imperfections. A few disadvantages remain, like the lack of 5G, an SD card slot or a second SSD, same for the non-user-replaceable keyboard. Overall, though, this is a very strong contender in its specific corner of the market.

Price and Availability
As of this review, the Lenovo ThinkPad P14s Gen 6 Intel starts at roughly $1,380 at Lenovo's US online shop. The version we tested, which is close to being the max spec, save for the Ultra 9 CPU and RTX Pro 1000 GPU, costs around $2,800.

In the grand scheme of ThinkPad things, the Lenovo ThinkPad P14s has always been an also-ran - just a renamed T14 with a slightly different set of drivers, nothing more, nothing less. That was the case until last year, when Lenovo released the ThinkPad P14s Gen 5 with Intel Meteor Lake. It was the first ThinkPad P14s with its own standalone design, which included a larger 14.5-inch screen, a battery with a higher capacity and a dual fan cooling system, making it far more suitable as an actual entry level workstation laptop.
The new version, the Lenovo ThinkPad P14s Gen 6 Intel, promises to be even better: It adds Intel's more efficient Arrow Lake CPUs, as well as Nvidia RTX Pro Blackwell GPUs.
Specifications: Intel COre Ultra 7 265H with Nvidia RTX Pro 500 Blackwell Generation
Case
Rather untypical for a ThinkPad, the Lenovo ThinkPad P14s Gen 6 Intel uses mainly aluminum for its construction instead of Magnesium. This is due to this system being based on the China-only ThinkPad T14p, a closer relative to Lenovo's E series ThinkPads, which means the ThinkPad P14s G6 is build not unsimilar to the ThinkPad E14 Gen 7.
Anodized black aluminum is used for the bottom cover and screen lid, plastic for the palmrest and screen bezel. Only the palmrest and notably the pill-shaped extrusion on the lid have the ThinkPad-typical smooth black coating. Overall, the P14s Gen 6 Intel is sturdy and robust, without any obvious build quality issues. The black surfaces do attract fingerprints, though.
Also in line with the ThinkPad E series: The long bar-hinge, which enables an opening angle of 180 degrees while only permitting minimal wobble. Opening the lid with one hand is possible.
The ThinkPad laptop is a bit bigger and heavier than most of the competitors, which is to be expected due to the 14.5-inch size - all other workstations in our comparison use a regular 14-inch screen. The ThinkPad P14s G6 Intel is also thicker than the other models, but its weight is right in line with its biggest competitor, the HP ZBook 8 G1i 14.
Connectivity: Lenovo ThinkPad still missing 5G option
Lenovo did not change the port selection compared with the older P14s Gen 5 Intel - it is also identical to the P14s Gen 6 AMD, despite the bigger chassis of the P14s G6 Intel. We are definitely missing an SD card slot, and a third Thunderbolt 4 / USB-C port on the right side of the chassis would also be appreciated.
Communication
A definitive minus of the Lenovo ThinkPad P14s Gen 6 Intel is the lack of a WWAN / 5G option - this is something buyers can get on the AMD version. At least the Intel BE201 Wi-Fi of the ThinkPad laptop works great, with fast and mostly stable transfer rates.
Webcam
Lenovo uses a 5 MPix webcam in the ThinkPad P14s Gen 6 Intel, which has become basically the standard among most ThinkPad laptops. The webcam performs alright, its performance is certainly "good enough" for video calls.

Security
Since the P14s Gen 6 Intel falls into the business category, it has multiple security features beyond basic things like a fingerprint sensor or IR webcam. These include a Smartcard reader, a physical webcam shutter and a Kensington lock slot for theft-protection.
Accessories
Lenovo does not put any accessories besides the 100 W USB-C charger into the box that the P14s ships in.
Maintenance
Taking off the back cover of the Lenovo ThinkPad P14s Gen 6 is easy enough. There are five captive Philips head screws and a few clips around the edge of the bottom. After these are loosened, the back cover can be removed. Inside, users can upgrade the two RAM SO-DIMMs and the SSD. There is a free M.2 2242 SSD slot, but it does not seem like it can be used for a second SSD. New for this year: The battery is officially user-removable, since it is now a CRU (Customer Replaceable Unit). Not removable is the Wi-Fi module, as it is soldered to the board. The same goes for the keyboard, which is not soldered down, but fastened to the chassis with rivets. A keyboard replacement necessitates a complete keyboard-cover replacement.
Sustainability
While Lenovo uses the same plastic free packaging as on other ThinkPads, the Lenovo ThinkPad P14s Gen 6 Intel does lag behind some other models when it comes to sustainability. For one, the chassis parts of the laptop are not made from recycled materials. Also, the CO2 emissions during production are a bit higher than on other ThinkPad laptops (170 kg/CO2 equivalent). At least, Lenovo provides detailed repair manuals, both in video and written form. Additionally, the manufacturer makes replacement parts and software updates for ThinkPads for up to seven years.
Warranty
This configuration of the Lenovo ThinkPad P14s Gen 6 Intel is sold with three years of warranty, which applies both in the country of origin, Germany, and internationally. It is a bring-in warranty, meaning the device has to be sent in for repair. The internal battery only has a more limited 12-month warranty.
Input Devices: Lenovo ThinkPad keyboard continues to be a strength
Keyboard
Lenovo did not change the keyboard of the Lenovo ThinkPad P14s Gen 6, which remains as comfortable as before. It is a Chiclet keyboard with 1.5 mm key-travel as well as a rounded, slightly concave dish. Typing experience is great, at the same level as the HP ZBook 8 G1i 14. The layout is even better than on the HP laptop, with bigger arrow keys and grouped F keys. Also, the ThinkPad has a two stage backlit keyboard, with white-blueish LEDs.
Touchpad & TrackPoint
The ThinkPad P14s Gen 6 is the only 14-inch workstations with physical mouse buttons, thanks to the presence of the red pointing stick, the TrackPoint. As a pointing stick, it enables the user to manipulate the pointer by "pushing" the red dot. It even provides a middle mouse button, which makes it uniquely suited for many programs that may require that middle mouse button.
Overall, we prefer the TrackPoint over the mechanical touchpad that measures 11.5 x 6 cm. The mechanical click of the clickpad is not very nice, as it is a bit spongy, and a glass touchpad would be nicer, though otherwise, the touchpad works well enough. Still, the touchpad is an area where the more expensive Lenovo ThinkPad P1 is clearly better.
Display: Brighter 3K IPS screen with 120 HZ VRR
Lenovo provides a selection of four different 14.5-inch 16:10 screens for the Lenovo ThinkPad P14s Gen 6 Intel, all of which are IPS-based. Notably, the device lacks a good WUXGA (1,920 x 1,200) option - if users want a better screen, they have to get the WQXGA (2,560 x 1,600) or 3K (3,072 x 1,920) panels:
- WUXGA, 400 cd/m², 45 % NTSC, matte, 60 Hz
- WUXGA, 400 cd/m², 45 % NTSC, matte, 60 Hz, Add-on film multitouch
- WQXGA, 400 cd/m², 100 % sRGB, matte, 90 Hz
- 3K, 500 cd/m², 100 % DCI-P3, matte, 120 Hz VRR
The 3K screen retains the rounded corners of the preceding ThinkPad P14s G5, but it is noticeably brighter this time with 502 cd/m² instead of 406 cd/m². Great: There is no PWM flickering, and barely any backlight bleeding.

According to Lenovo, the screen of the ThinkPad laptop is calibrated ex-factory. We were still able to improve the color accuracy with a calibration with the X-Rite i1Pro 3 and the X-Rite i1Profiler. Especially the grayscale values improve after the calibration. The profile we created is available for download for free in the gray box above, as always.
The screen of the ThinkPad P14s G6 covers the sRGB and the DCI-P3 almost, too - 98.3 % DCI-P3. This screen is very usable for photo and video editing.

Performance: Arrow Lake H and Nvidia RTX Pro are an improvement
Lenovo offers a total of five different processors (Intel Core Ultra 5 225H, Ultra 5 235H, Ultra 7 255H, Ultra 7 265H, Ultra 9 285H) and four different GPUs (Intel ARC Graphics 130T, ARC Graphics 140T, Nvidia RTX Pro 500 Blackwell Generation, RTX Pro 1000 Blackwell Generation). RAM maxes out at 96 GB DDR5-6400, there are two SO-DIMM/CSO-DIMM modules. A single M.2 2280 PCIe 4.0 / 5.0 SSD with up to 2 TB is offered as the maximum storage configuration.
Testing Conditions
As always with ThinkPad laptops, Lenovo relies on the Windows settings to set the power modes, which regulate the power consumption of the processor via the power limits (PL1 = sustained, PL2 = short boost). We used "Best performance" for all of our benchmark testing:
- Best battery life: PL1 30 W / PL2 65 W
- Balanced: PL1 40 W / PL2 65 W
- Best performance: PL1 50 W / PL2 65 W
Processor
The Intel Core Ultra 7 265H is the second fastest "Arrow Lake" processor of the H class, which has a typical TDP of 45 W. This processor is typically used in powerful workstations and gaming laptops, and it provides full vPro functionality for enterprise customers. There is a total of sixteen cores, with the six fast P cores reaching clock speeds of up to 5.3 GHz. Comparisons with other processors are possible with our CPU comparison list.
Overall, the newer P14s Gen 6 does considerably better than the old P14s Gen 5 with Intel Meteor Lake, equalizing the overall CPU performance with the AMD-based P14s Gen 6, too - albeit with a higher power consumption. Compared to the Meteor Lake based predecessor, the Arrow Lake equipped P14s Gen 6 was on average 12 percent faster.
When used on battery power alone, Lenovo throttles the Lenovo ThinkPad P14s Gen 6 Intel by around 28 percent (Cinebench R23 Multi: 15562 points).

DPC Latency
The Lenovo ThinkPad P14s Gen 6 Intel laptop has some trouble with DPC latency dropouts. This is most likely due to an issue with the network driver.

Storage Devices
Lenovo uses a fast NVMe PCIe 5 SSD in the Lenovo ThinkPad P14s Gen 6 Intel. The M.2 2280 drive from Samsung has a capacity of 2 TB. The flash-drive did well in our benchmarks. Also, it did not show any throttling.

GPU Performance
We tested the weaker of the two Nvidia GPUs available, the Nvidia RTX Pro 500 Blackwell Generation. This GPU is an upgrade over the old Nvidia RTX 500 ADA, but not a big one. At least, Nvidia has increased the VRAM from four to six GB, but that is still not that much.
In terms of the performance, the Lenovo ThinkPad P14s Gen 6 Intel outdoes both its Intel-based predecessor (+13 %) and its own AMD variant (+77 %) in the synthetic 3DMark benchmarks. Of course, it pales compared to the ZBook Ultra with its strong Radeon iGPU, though maybe the optional RTX Pro 1000 variant of the P14s G6 Intel could be slightly more competitive.
In any case, the RTX Pro 500 Blackwell is certainly a capable GPU for some entry-level CAD, as well as some light gaming - although mostly only in the Full-HD resolution setting.

Energy Management: Efficiency is up, thanks to Intel Arrow Lake H
Power Consumption
Progress has clearly been made when it comes to efficiency, as the Lenovo ThinkPad P14s Gen 6 Intel has a noticeably lower power consumption than its predecessor. Of course, power consumption remains high compared to the AMD-equipped variant of the ThinkPad P14s Gen 6, but that is to be expected with the Nvidia GPU and higher res screen.
The Lenovo ThinkPad P14s G6 draws a bit over 100 W during our max load stress test. However, since the power consumption quickly drops below that mark, the battery should not be discharged during everyday use.
