Verdict — Quality Hardware With Lacking Graphics
The HyperX Omen 15 is an interesting option in the midrange gaming category. Its strengths lie in the beautiful 3K OLED display and strong looks despite the use of plastic surfaces. The heavy weight indubitably has its drawbacks, but it also contributes to a sense of quality that lighter budget gaming laptops tend to lack. The spacious and comfortable keyboard and easy serviceability deserve praise as well as they take advantage of the relatively thick profile.
The biggest drawback is arguably the 85 W GeForce RTX 5070 which can feel underpowered against the otherwise crisp 3K 1800p display. While older titles run well, newer titles like Forza Horizon 6 or Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced begin to struggle at 1440p or higher even with DLSS upscaling or FG enabled. Thus, you'll have to play around with minute settings more carefully than usual to fit the native 3K resolution.
Other gaming laptops with the exact same RTX 5070 GPU tend to run 10 to 20 percent faster than our Omen 15 such as the Lenovo Legion 5 15IAX11 or even HP's own HyperX Omen 16. The deficit is largely due to the higher TGP ceilings that most other models in the gaming category tend to offer.
It's unfortunate that the current Omen 15 offers no RTX 5070 Ti options as that would have addressed our main gripe with the model. The existing chassis design has the potential to support an RTX 5070 Ti based on our temperature and power findings. Instead, users will have to upgrade to the pricier and even larger Omen Max series for graphics options higher than the regular RTX 5070.
Pros
Cons
Price and Availability
The HyperX Omen 15 as reviewed is now shipping directly from the manufacturer for $2150.
The HyperX Omen 15 is part of HP's midrange gaming laptop series in contrast to the lower-end Victus series and enthusiast-level Omen Max series. Our last 15-inch Omen model was all the way back in 2021 and so a lot has changed since then.
Our test unit comes fully configured with the Core Ultra 9 386H Panther Lake CPU, 85 W GeForce RTX 5070 GPU, and 1800p 120 Hz OLED display for approximately $2150. Lesser SKUs may come with lower resolution IPS displays or slower RTX options.
Competitors in this space include other budget-midrange gaming laptops like the Acer Nitro V 15, Gigabyte G5 KF5, or the MSI Cyborg 15.

Specifications
Case
The chassis takes inspiration from the recent Omen 16 with its similar build and plastic materials. Overall quality is better than expected for the midrange category even if it doesn't feel as sleek or luxurious as a Razer Blade or MSI Stealth.
Connectivity
Port options are somewhat barebones despite the sizable form factor. Additionally, note that the USB-C port along the rear does not support Thunderbolt likely to keep costs in check.

Maintenance
Sustainability
Portions of the keyboard consist of post-consumer recycled plastic while the packaging is largely cardboard and paper with a bit of plastic for the AC adapter.
Accessories And Warranty
There are no extras in the box other than the AC adapter and paperwork. The usual one-year limited warranty applies.
Input Devices
Display
Three display options are available as follows all with VRR support as standard. None support touch or G-Sync.
- 1920 x 1200, 165 Hz, IPS, 400 nits, 100% sRGB, matte
- 2560 x 1600, 180 Hz, IPS, 500 nits, 100% sRGB, matte
- 2880 x 1800, 120 Hz, OLED, 500 nits SDR, 1100 nits HDR, 100% DCI-P3, glossy
The OLED panel in particular is better than most options on other midrange gaming laptops in terms of resolution and HDR support. However, users who don't value full P3 colors may want to consider the lower resolution and less expensive IPS options especially since they arguably pair better with the RTX 5070 and aren't nearly as reflective.

Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)
| Screen flickering / PWM detected | 959.32 Hz Amplitude: 30 % | ≤ 100 % brightness setting | |
The display backlight flickers at 959.32 Hz (worst case, e.g., utilizing PWM) Flickering detected at a brightness setting of 100 % and below. There should be no flickering or PWM above this brightness setting. The frequency of 959.32 Hz is quite high, so most users sensitive to PWM should not notice any flickering. In comparison: 52 % of all tested devices do not use PWM to dim the display. If PWM was detected, an average of 7600 (minimum: 5 - maximum: 343500) Hz was measured. | |||

GPU Performance
Since most gaming laptops with the same GeForce RTX 5070 tend to be 100 W or greater, the 85 W version in our HP falls a bit short by just a few percentage points on average. Running on the quieter Balanced mode instead of Performance mode would entail a further 8 percent hit to graphics performance as shown by our Fire Strike table below.

System Noise
Fan noise when gaming is similar to competitors at the low 50 dB(A) range meaning that the HP doesn't run any louder despite its cooler-than-expected temperatures. If gaming on the slower Balanced mode, fan noise would drop considerably from 52.3 dB(A) to 46.4 dB(A).

Stress Test
The system would boost to 3.4 GHz, 80 W, and 88 C when initiating Prime95 stress before falling to 3.0 GHz, 60 W, and 72 C roughly 30 seconds later to represent limited Turbo Boost sustainability. We expected better for a dedicated gaming laptop with an H-series CPU, but at least the dip is relatively minor.
GPU power draw when running Cyberpunk 2077 on Balanced mode and Performance mode would average 69 W and 84 W, respectively, which aligns with our 3DMark and fan noise observations above.

Power Consumption
Our HP demands noticeably less power than the Lenovo Legion 5 15IAX11 by about 25 percent when running games. Of course, the Lenovo system sports the faster CPU and targets higher TGP ceilings with the same RTX 5070 for slightly faster gaming performance on average.
