Verdict - ThinkPad T14s Gen 7 closes the gap to the X1 Carbon
Lenovo's updated ThinkPad T14s Gen 7 is an improvement over the previous model and closes the gap to the flagship ThinkPad X1 Carbon even further. While the performance is only slightly better than before due to improved cooling, you get a lighter chassis and longer battery runtimes. Both the AMD and Intel SKUs offer pretty much the same level of performance and you still get a good keyboard (even though it could be better) and a decent number of ports with a new USB-C port on the right side, so you can charge your T14s from both sides now.
The fan noise is very quiet and it is often turned off during lighter workloads, which is a clear improvement over the previous model. The matte IPS touchscreen with full sRGB color gamut offers decent image quality and can even be used for picture editing after calibration. The frequency is limited to 60 Hz, but it is good for productive tasks. And Lenovo also offers a matte 120 Hz 2.8K OLED panel if you prefer better image quality (but probably with higher power consumption). The speakers were improved as well, so this is a very good overall package, even though the memory is still soldered.
Finally, there is the price, and the new model is much more expensive compared to last year with a starting price north of $2000. Our SKU with 64 GB RAM cannot be configured yet, but we definitely expect a price well north of $3,000 for this particular unit.

Specifications
Case, Connectivity and Input Devices
Lenovo completely redesigned the chassis of the ThinkPad T14s Gen 7 and the new model is now lighter, so it is almost a rival for the ThinkPad X1 Carbon. However, while the T14s starts at around 1.1 kg, our AMD SKU tips the scale at 1.193 kg, so the weight advantage is "only" 100 grams. The lid is made of a carbon fiber hybrid material, while the base unit is made of aluminum. Chassis stability is good and there is only minor flex in the base unit when you twist it, but there are no creaking sounds. The lid is also quite flexible, but we were not able to provoke picture distortions. The hinges (max. angle 180 degrees), however, are not perfectly adjusted as there is visible wobbling and the display falls down at smaller angles. The surfaces also feel a bit rough, but fingerprints are not a huge issue. Access to the internals is very easy and you can clean the fan, replace the battery, the M.2-2280 SSD and install a WWAN-module (antennas pre-installed), all the other components are soldered.
Connectivity is solid with three USB-C ports (dual Thunderbolt 4) ports, one regular USB-A port as well as HDMI and an optional SmartCard reader. The addition of a USB-C port on the right side enables charging from both sides. The Wi-Fi 7 module manages good transfer rates and the 5 MP webcam (with shutter & IR) takes decent images. Our review unit is WWAN-ready.
The keyboard with the adjusted symbols is a bit of a mixed bag. It finally supports automatic background illumination and still offers 1.5 mm travel (except for G, H, B % FN row with 1.35 mm), but the keys are pretty flat and the overall typing experience is just not quite as good as on the larger ThinkPad T16 Gen 5 we recently reviewed, for example. It is still very comfortable, but it could be better. Both the Trackpoint (with mechanical buttons) as well as the clickpad work very well and the clicks are not too loud, either. The capacitive touchscreen is limited to finger inputs (no stylus support).

Display
Our review unit is equipped with the Full-HD IPS touchscreen (1920 x 1200 pixels, 16:10) with 60 Hz and 100 % sRGB gamut. While a higher refresh rate would have been nice, the matte screen is still a decent choice for productive tasks and the overall image quality is good with rich Colors and sharp contents. Bright contents do nook grainy, either. There is no PWM flickering and the response times are inconspicuous.
Our analysis with the professional CalMAN software reveals a slight blue cast out of the box, but this can fixed with our own calibration (the profile can be downloaded for free in the box below) and you can also use this panel for picture editing. The brightness results are good with ~530 nits on average and the black value is still decent at 0.32, which results in a good maximum contrast ratio of ~1800:1. Lenovo also offers a matte OLED option with 120 Hz if you want a better screen.

Testing Conditions
Lenovo's power profiles are synched with the Windows settings on ThinkPads. We used the mode Best Performance for our benchmarks and measurements.
Processor Performance
The AMD Ryzen AI 7 PRO 450 (Gorgon Point) offers eight Zen 5 cores (4x Zen 5, 4x Zen 5c) and is very similar to the old Ryzen AI 7 350. It consumes up to 40 Watts and eventually settles at 25 Watts, so the performance is better compared to the previous Gen 6 model we reviewed. All in all, the performance is good and completely sufficient for most office tasks. The CPU performance is not reduced on battery power.

System and Storage Devices
The overall system performance is very good and we did not notice any stability issues. The PCIe 4.0 SSD from Micron (512 GB, 363 GB free) offers good transfer rates and can be replaced if necessary. Our latency test shows issues with the current BIOS version, so there can be limitations for real-time audio software.

GPU and Gaming Performance
The Radeon 860M is a familiar iGPU and the performance is a bit lower than the Radeon 880M and pretty much identical to the new Panther Lake iGPU with 4 Xe3 cores, which is available in the Intel model of the T14s Gen 7. It is fine for regular office tasks and also some light gaming, but do not expect any miracles. The GPU performance is stable on battery power and under sustained workloads.

Emissions & Power Consumption
System Noise
The cooling unit uses one fan and the T14s Gen 7 is usually a very quiet device under light workloads. If you don't need the full performance, we usually recommend the Balanced power profile to enjoy a very quiet device even with short peak load situations. Under maximum load we can measure up to 41.6 dB(A) (Balanced: 36 dB(A), Best power efficiency: 28 dB(A)). We did not hear any coil whine on our unit.

Speakers
Lenovo improved the speakers and the sound quality from the stereo modules is actually pretty good, not only for a business laptop.

Power Consumption and Battery Life
Our consumption measurements show one surprise, because the standby value is too high at 1.3 Watts and this should be fixed by Lenovo with an update. The maximum consumption under stress is ~65 Watts but quickly drops to 46 Watts, so the 65W PSU is sufficient.
The 58 Wh battery did not change, but the runtimes are a bit better than before. Our Wi-Fi test at 150 nits run for almost 17.5 hours and still 11.5 hours at maximum brightness.
