Intel launches new Classmate PC with Pine Trail processor
The new system offers increased performance and improved ruggedness
Intel has just disclosed that it is going to launch an all new Intel powered convertible Classmate PC which will combine aesthetics with ruggedness and will offer full PC functionality with improved battery performance. The system will also feature advanced e-reading capabilities. The latest Classmate PC will once again target the kids but, this time it will support Intel’s latest Pine Trail processor which will offer improved performance and increased battery life of up to 8.5 hours. The other thing that Intel has managed to improve on this new PC is its ruggedness. Since, the Classmate PC is meant for use by kids it has been made lightweight yet durable with improved ruggedness, hard drive protection, anti-microbial keyboard, scratch resistant body, and water resistant keyboard, touchpad and screen. The Classmate PC as usual is easy to hold and carry thanks to its low profile handle that supports a variety of holding and carrying positions. Other features on the latest Intel Classmate PC include:
- 10.1-inch 1024x600 resolution swivel LCD resistive touchscreen display (lacks multi-touch capability)
- Built-in rotational camera
- Built-in microphone, speakers, and dual headphone jacks
- WiFi, 3G, GPS, WiMAX connectivity options
- Digital accelerometer which switches the screen orientation in accordance with the holding position of the screen
- Special user interface for e-reader application (students can scroll and turn pages conveniently)
- Handwriting recognition (available in multiple languages) with note-taking software
In case you are still wondering what are the improvements that the new Classmate PC has to offer to the user, let me just sum it up for you:
- Increased ruggedness
- More rugged yet more flexible handle
- A much more solid hinge
- Bigger keyboard with more comfortable keys
- Quick launcher software which makes it easy for kids to launch common software at the touch of a button
- Faster Pine Trail processor
- Improved performance
- Increased battery life
Although, this device would have been better off if Intel could have added multi-touch capability to it but, overall, I think the new Classmate PC is quite cool and would be a hit amongst students.
