MODA, short for "Multiplayer Online Dungeon Adventure", is a genre a passionate development studio aims to introduce with its debut title. Players can try this new concept firsthand in a free playtest starting in just a few days.

Fellowship is the debut title from Chief Rebel, a studio founded by industry veterans from Avalanche Studios, Ubisoft, Blizzard and Rockstar. The developers blend elements of MMOs, MOBAs and ARPGs to create a new genre: Multiplayer Online Dungeon Adventures (MODA). The game focuses on fast-paced, cooperative dungeon runs, inspired by World of Warcraft’s Mythic+ system – without open-world quests, story campaigns or other typical MMO features. Visually, it also bears a strong resemblance to World of Warcraft.

Players select from a variety of pre-made heroes, upgrade their gear and tackle increasingly difficult challenges in randomly generated dungeons – a system reminiscent of roguelites and ARPGs. Each successful run offers valuable rewards, while enemy strength scales dynamically. Fans of World of Warcraft’s Mythic+ dungeons should feel right at home, especially since Fellowship won’t require a paid subscription. The overview trailer, released on February 19, gives a closer look at the gameplay in action:

Release unknown, but playtest is just around the corner

It's unclear whether Fellowship will launch in 2025, but players won’t have to wait long to try it out. As part of the upcoming Steam Next Fest, developer Chief Rebel is hosting a free playtest. From February 24 to March 3, gamers can experience Fellowship firsthand at no cost.

Community is cautiously optimistic

The Reddit community is cautiously optimistic about Fellowship. The idea of MMO-style dungeons without level grinding or daily quests has been well received. The business model – without a subscription or gacha mechanics—is also appreciated, as long as the always-online requirement doesn’t become an issue. However, some concerns remain. The UI, heavily inspired by WoW add-ons, appears to offer fewer customization options, which could make tracking buffs and cooldowns more difficult. Additionally, the use of pre-made heroes has sparked mixed reactions, with some players preferring a character creation system for more personalization.
