Asus advertises both models as weighing just 1.2 kg. While that’s roughly accurate for the AMD model, we measured the Intel ZenBook at 1,288 g—so closer to 1.3 kg.
Verdict – The Better ZenBook 14 This Year
Last year, the AMD ZenBook was our preferred choice, but this year, the situation has reversed. Unlike the AMD version, the Intel ZenBook benefits from hardware advantages (Thunderbolt, Wi-Fi 7) and a meaningful CPU performance boost. While the new CPU in the AMD model scores lower than its predecessor, the Intel CPU performs better than its previous generation. The differences aren’t huge, but they are enough for the Intel model to surpass the now slightly weaker AMD ZenBook.
Some minor criticisms remain. Latency is still high in benchmark tests, hinting at some driver issues. The SSD is underwhelming and throttles heavily under heat—something Asus handles better on the AMD version. Also, while Asus advertises the Intel ZenBook as 1.2 kg (similar to the AMD’s 1,225 g), it’s technically a bit heavier (1,288 g), making the marketing claim somewhat misleading.

The ZenBook 14 with Intel instead of AMD costs roughly 100 euros more in our configuration, which makes it a good starting point for comparing the two models. Instead of the AMD Ryzen AI 7 350, this version is equipped with a Core Ultra 7 255H.
Since we have already tested the almost identical AMD ZenBook 14 OLED in more detail, we will refer to our review of the ZenBook 14 OLED UM3406K for the sections on case, ports, and input devices when testing the Intel version. Any differences will still be noted.
Specifications
Case & Features – Intel ZenBook with a slight weight disadvantage!
Unlike being available only in black, the Intel model also comes in silver, and unlike the AMD version, both USB-C ports support Thunderbolt 4. At least the silver variant also doesn’t have the fingerprint issue.
Communication
Instead of a MediaTek module, this model uses Intel’s Wi-Fi 7 chip BE201. In Wi-Fi 5 and Wi-Fi 6E, however, the AMD ZenBook manages slightly faster transfer rates.

Display – Only Intel gets two options
Our test unit comes with the same 60 Hz 1200p OLED panel found in the current AMD ZenBook and its predecessor, though here it includes touch support. Only the Intel model offers an alternative: a sharper 1800p OLED with a smoother 120 Hz refresh rate.
Even so, this display holds up well with solid brightness, fast response times, excellent color coverage, and strong contrast. The only real drawback is the outdated 60 Hz refresh rate. Below 85% brightness, the panel also uses PWM at 480 Hz.

Screen flickering / PWM detected | 480 Hz Amplitude: 28 % | ||
The display backlight flickers at 480 Hz (worst case, e.g., utilizing PWM) . The frequency of 480 Hz is relatively high, so most users sensitive to PWM should not notice any flickering. However, there are reports that some users are still sensitive to PWM at 500 Hz and above, so be aware. In comparison: 53 % of all tested devices do not use PWM to dim the display. If PWM was detected, an average of 8228 (minimum: 5 - maximum: 343500) Hz was measured. |
Performance – Intel ZenBook steps up this year
Our Intel test unit comes with 16 GB of RAM instead of 32 GB, but paired with its CPU, iGPU, and accurate OLED panel, it still offers excellent all-around performance for office work and multimedia. With just 16 GB of RAM (expandable to 32 GB), it’s less ideal as a serious workstation for content creators.

The MyAsus app offers four fan profiles. For consistency, we tested the Intel, the AMD, and the previous-gen model all in Standard mode, but we also checked the other modes when needed.

Processor
The Intel Core Ultra 7 255H is a high-end laptop CPU with 16 cores (6 performance, 8 efficiency, and 2 low-power) running up to 5.1 GHz.
In Cinebench loop, the CPU starts strong with a much higher initial score than the AMD version. Unfortunately, performance steadily declines until it actually drops below the AMD ZenBook after about 14 runs. In short bursts and single-core workloads, however, Intel clearly takes the lead. Across the board, the Intel model edges ahead, thanks more to its strong initial burst than to long-term sustained performance.
On battery, performance drops by roughly 10%.

System Performance
Subjectively, the system feels smooth, but benchmarks show it trailing expectations by about 9%. A poor Productivity score in PCMark 10 dragged the overall result down, though even in other tests it lagged a few points behind the average Core Ultra 7 255H.

DPC Latency
High latency appeared as soon as we opened a browser. Intel’s drivers seem less optimized here than AMD’s.
According to LatencyMon, the Intel ZenBook isn’t well-suited for real-time audio playback at the moment. Even our YouTube test video dropped too many frames. In day-to-day use, though, the issue wasn’t noticeable.

Mass storage
Unlike the AMD version, SSD performance on the Intel ZenBook isn’t stable and gets throttled by heat. The internal layout of the AMD model may allow better cooling.
The Samsung PM9C1 (1 TB) in our unit also ran about 16% below its rated speed.

GPU Performance
The integrated Intel Arc Graphics 140T has 8 cores (128 CUs). In 3DMark, it scored about 5% below expectations but was still around 26% faster than the Radeon 860M in the AMD ZenBook. On battery, Fire Strike results were nearly identical to plugged-in performance.
In games, the gap between the two models is smaller, but Intel usually comes out ahead by more than 10%. The exception is GTA V, where performance was consistently poor, narrowing the overall lead.
Casual gaming is possible on the Intel ZenBook at low to medium settings and resolutions.

Noise
At idle, the fans are usually off. Under 3DMark06, they kick in earlier than on the AMD model and spin louder overall. At full load or during gaming, the two laptops behave similarly. We also noticed some faint coil whine (e.g., in Geekbench AI).

Temperature
The hot spot under full load reaches 47 °C, about the same as the AMD version (on the underside near the display). However, the Intel system stays a bit cooler on the side away from the single fan. The left keyboard area and palm rests in particular remain comfortably cool.
(±) The maximum temperature on the upper side is 40 °C / 104 F, compared to the average of 35.9 °C / 97 F, ranging from 21.4 to 59 °C for the class Subnotebook.
(-) The bottom heats up to a maximum of 47 °C / 117 F, compared to the average of 39.3 °C / 103 F
(+) In idle usage, the average temperature for the upper side is 27.2 °C / 81 F, compared to the device average of 30.8 °C / 87 F.
(±) 3: The average temperature for the upper side is 34.1 °C / 93 F, compared to the average of 30.8 °C / 87 F for the class Subnotebook.
(+) The palmrests and touchpad are cooler than skin temperature with a maximum of 30 °C / 86 F and are therefore cool to the touch.
(±) The average temperature of the palmrest area of similar devices was 28.2 °C / 82.8 F (-1.8 °C / -3.2 F).

Power Consumption
At idle, our test unit is impressively efficient at just 3.5–4.2 W. During gaming, it averages 32 W, and under stress testing, we saw brief spikes up to 66 W. The included 65 W USB-C adapter handled this without issue.

Battery Life
With its 75 Wh battery, the Intel ZenBook lasted over 12 hours in video playback and more than 15 hours in our Wi-Fi test. That’s very strong, often outperforming rivals. Only the Snapdragon-powered ZenBook A14 does better here.
