Verdict: Productivity chops come at a steep asking price
The HP OmniBook X 14 is a viable option for those looking for a reliable machine that lets them go about their day without much fuss. The design is not a head-turner, but it looks suave enough and is easy to carry around.
Performance-wise, there isn't much to complain about with the OmniBook X 14. The Core Ultra 7 356H performs as expected, and the cooling system allows for decent sustained performance while keeping temperatures in check.
The biggest consternation with the OmniBook X 14 is its $1,900 or ₹1,89,999 asking price, which seems a bit steep for the configuration on offer. That's perhaps the new normal these days.
Alternatives like HP's own OmniBook Ultra 14 with Ryzen AI 9 HX 375 may be a couple of years old at this point but offer better CPU and GPU performance for a lot less, if you're content with an IPS panel.

Specifications
Chassis: Sleek, premium build
The OmniBook X 14 sports a dual-anodized Atmospheric Blue aluminum finish that HP says is MIL-STD 810H tested. Despite a sturdy build, the laptop is quite portable with a thickness of 1.26 cm and weighs just 1.3 kg. The overall design is very reminiscent of the OmniBook X Flip 14.
The lid can be lifted with one finger, and the hinges feel premium while rotating to about 130°. A pair of rubber feet keep the base elevated enough to ensure airflow, but the exhaust vents are somewhat blocked by the base of the lid.
The bottom panel can be pried open with some effort after dislodging four PH00 screws. The battery, WLAN card, and M.2 NVMe SSD can be replaced if needed.
Connectivity: Decent port selection and fast Wi-Fi 7
The OmniBook X 14 offers a decent port selection. The two USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A and Thunderbolt 4 ports are each placed on either side for convenient access.
The MediaTek MT7925 Wi-Fi 7 adapter isn't the fastest we've seen, but its throughput is consistently above the 2 Gbps mark in both 5 GHz and 6 GHz bands when tested with our reference Asus RT-BE96U router.

Webcam
The 5 MP webcam supports Windows Hello logins and comes with a physical privacy shutter. The color deviations are on the higher side, but the image quality is passable for video conferencing.

Sustainability
According to HP, the OmniBook X 14 is designed using 30% recycled plastics and 50% recycled aluminum, with the keycaps containing up to 85% post-consumer recycled plastic.
The laptop carries EPEAT Gold with Climate+ and Energy Star certifications.
Input devices: Comfortable typing experience
The OmniBook X 14's lattice-free keyboard now offers wider spacing, improved tactility, and deeper travel, which make for a more natural typing experience with fewer accidental presses.
The 12.5 cm x 8 cm touchpad is a typical washboard mechanical design that supports Windows Precision gestures along with swipe gestures for volume and brightness.
Display: Immersive 2.8K OLED with high PWM
The OmniBook X 14 uses a Samsung SDC4215 2,880 x 1,800 2.8K OLED touchscreen with a 120 Hz refresh rate. The panel shows a very good 91% brightness distribution with a maximum brightness of 451 nits.
Although HP says the panel is capable of 1,100 nits in HDR mode, we could measure only 458 nits at APL 10 with our unit.

The display backlight flickers at 960.19 Hz (worst case, e.g., utilizing PWM) Flickering detected at a brightness setting of 100 % and below. There should be no flickering or PWM above this brightness setting. The frequency of 960.19 Hz is quite high, so most users sensitive to PWM should not notice any flickering. In comparison: 52 % of all tested devices do not use PWM to dim the display. If PWM was detected, an average of 7572 (minimum: 5 - maximum: 343500) Hz was measured. | |||
Performance: Core Ultra 7 356H throws no surprises
The OmniBook X 14 is offered with the Intel Core Ultra 7 356H. Performance options can be set via the HP app.
We used the Performance mode for all benchmarks, which allows for a PL1/PL2 of 35 W / 65 W. Battery run times were tested in the Smart sense mode that offers a PL1/PL2 of 30 W / 65 W.
Processor performance
We observe a ~20.5% decrease in Cinebench R15 multi-core score in the third loop during the test, but the OmniBook X 14's cooling system is able to sustain the Core Ultra 7 356H's performance fairly well thereafter.
Overall CPU performance is on par with other Core Ultra 7 356H devices, while single-core performance is on similar lines as the AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 375 in the OmniBook Ultra 14 and the Ryzen AI 9 465 in the OmniBook X Flip 14.

GPU and Gaming performance
The OmniBook X 14's Intel Graphics 4 Xe3 iGPU is significantly faster in 3DMark performance compared to other Panther Lake-H laptops but is, of course, no match for the Arc B390.
These gains, however, do not translate well in gaming tests.
