HP EliteBook 8740w is worth the wait

Category: new notebook models
By: Raghav Kapoor

It will feature the new ATI FirePro M7820 GPU with 1GB GDDR5 memory

It sounds a bit strange but HP still isn't ready to show off the EliteBook 8740w notebook when it has already got the cover off its new range of EliteBook 2540p and the EliteBook 2740p notebooks. No matter how much HP tries to cover the beast, the datasheet resides with us and it surely is a product to wait for. Rumor has it that it's going to be on the shelf this month end. Here is the spec sheet for you:-

  • Intel Core i7 720QM 1.06GHz quad core processor or 820QM 1.73GHz quad core processor & some other Core i5 processors out there to pickup
  • 4 DDR3 slots for upto 16GB RAM
  • A Hard Drive upwards of 500GB
  • New ATI FirePro M7820 workstation graphics with 1GB GDDR5 memory
  • 17-inch display
  • A full sized keyboard.
  • Atleast 4 USB 3.0 Ports

With so much being offered it should be priced upwards of $500 but that is not the figure to go by as we don't have a word yet. Keep checking this space for more.

In case you have missed the launch of 2740p and  2540p, here is a small preview. The HP EliteBook 2740p tablet PC combines the power and reliability of an HP business notebook PC with the flexibility of a tablet, making it ideal for users on the go. The 2740p weighs 3.8 pounds and includes a 12.1-inch diagonal LED display or an optional outdoor-view display with less reflection and a higher contrast for easier viewing in natural light. The HP EliteBook 2740p offers a variety of battery solutions for lightweight configurations, including a six-cell li-ion prismatic battery, which provides up to 5 hours of uptime, and an optional HP 2700 ultra-Slim battery that provides up to 11 hours when combined with the standard battery.

The optional HP 2740 Ultra-Slim Expansion Base allows users to dock their notebook PCs to utilize peripherals without needing to constantly plug and unplug. This innovative expansion base includes a DVD+/-RW drive, fits neatly into a briefcase so the optical drive can easily travel, and supports DisplayPort so users can easily connect to an external monitor. The expansion base also has an eSATA port, allowing for connection to an external RAID array, HDD and optical drives for fast and easy storage.
