The Aorus RTX 5060 Ti AI Box turns compact notebooks into 1440p gaming rigs

Pairing an ultraportable notebook like the ThinkPad X9 14 (Intel Lunar Lake) with the Aorus RTX 5060 Ti AI Box turns a thin-and-light device into a capable 1440p gaming setup.

Mid-2026 is really not a good time if you are looking to buy a new gaming- and/or creator laptop, since prices are higher for pretty much the same performance as last year. So how about upgrading the laptop you already own, especially in the GPU department? Sounds like a dream?

We did exactly that by combining the gorgeous white special edition of the Lunar Lake-powered Lenovo ThinkPad X9 14 (check out our review for a little refresher)with the Aorus RTX 5060 Ti (see what a desktop card can do in our testbench) AI-Box, a desktop-class 180W graphics card in an external Thunderbolt 5 enclosure.
With just a single cable, you can turn a super thin and light business or lifestyle notebook into a full-on gaming and work setup, all for a price that is quite a bit less than what you currently would have to pay for even an entry-level gaming laptop.

While Thunderbolt enclosures are not really anything new and have their own fair share of value problems, especially if you are venturing into higher-end GPU options, pairing something like the Aorus 5060 Ti with a system that is solely betting on integrated graphics alone can actually make a lot of sense.
Just do not expect a similar setup with laptops that come with any dedicated 50-series mobile GPUs to offer a lot of a performance boost!

For our testing, we put the ThinkPad - eGPU combo through a bunch of synthetic benchmarks (with both expected and surprising results) but also took the setup for a spin in real-world gaming, playing at almost 200 fps in Fortnite, smooth 60fps+ gameplay in Cyberpunk 20277 in QHD, and some creator- and AI-workflows in Resolve 21 for our videos, and Comfy UI, for example.

Performance aside, the daily-driving experience was also almost flawless, and the Aorus 5060 Ti stayed quiet even under full load. After some initial driver shenanigans, the setup was incredibly stable, and we didn't run into any problems during our testing.
