The selection of docking solutions for the Mac Mini is quite large, but the manufacturer Wokyis tries to stand out from the competition with a distinctive design. The M5 retro docking station is not just supposed to be practical, but it also looks like an old Apple Macintosh computer. This dock is now available in an upgraded version, but at a significantly higher price. Instead of $169, the price has been increased to $339 on Amazon, so users should make sure that they actually need the more expensive version.
Compared to the cheaper model, the bandwidth increases from 10 to up to 80 Gbps. When using an SSD and USB ports at the same time, this can result in significantly higher data transfer rates. The Mac Mini dock can accommodate an M.2 2280 SSD, which is a generally more affordable alternative compared to Apple’s pricy storage upgrades.
On the rear, there are two USB Type-A ports with up to 10 Gbps, while additional USB ports are located on the front. A 5-inch display is built into the dock and sports a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels, which is not particularly sharp. However, it could still be suitable as a secondary display. There is also a DisplayPort on the rear, which supports 8K60 output. The Wokyis docking station is powered via USB PD, and a 3.5mm headphone jack is on board as well. Finally, the M.2 SSD slot maxes out at 6,000 MB/s, as long as the SSD is fast enough and the hooked-up device supports Thunderbolt 5.
