No Ryzen AI: AMD launches Ryzen 5 439 and Ryzen 7 449 with binned NPUs

AMD launched two new Gorgon Point laptop chips on Aug. 9, the Ryzen 5 439 and the Ryzen 7 449, and both drop the NPU that defines the rest of the Ryzen AI 400 series. AMD's own spec pages list no NPU for either part, unlike the closely related Ryzen AI 5 Pro 440 and Ryzen AI 7 Pro 450.
The Ryzen 5 439 uses the same 3+3 Zen 5 and Zen 5c core layout as the Ryzen AI 5 Pro 440, but only boosts to 4.6 GHz instead of 4.8 GHz, and its Zen 5c cluster tops out at 3.3 GHz versus 3.5 GHz on the PRO part. L3 cache is also cut in half, from 16 MB to 8 MB. AMD rates the Ryzen AI 5 Pro 440's XDNA NPU at up to 50 TOPS, a figure that disappears entirely from the Ryzen 5 439's page.
The Ryzen 7 449 is closest to the Ryzen AI 7 Pro 450. Both keep the 4+4 Zen 5 and Zen 5c core layout and the Radeon 860M iGPU, but the Ryzen 7 449 boosts to 5.0 GHz versus 5.1 GHz on the PRO 450, and the Zen 5c cluster runs slightly slower at 3.4 GHz versus 3.6 GHz. The Ryzen AI 7 Pro 450 has an NPU rated at up to 50 TOPS and platform-wide AI performance of 66 TOPS; both figures are absent from the Ryzen 7 449's listing.
Both new parts retain a 28 W default TDP with a configurable range of 15-54 W, the same TSMC 4 nm process, and the same FP8 socket as their Ryzen AI counterparts. AMD hasn't disclosed pricing or announced any laptop design wins for either chip.
AMD's own product finder also appears to have a labeling error: both chips are listed under a "Ryzen 400" tab, but the page header above the comparison table reads "AMD Ryzen 6000 Series Processors," which suggests that the two SKUs were added to the site in a hurry.
