Our first AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX Pro 470 benchmarks are in and they're exactly as we expected

Laptops with the Ryzen AI 9 HX Pro 470 are now on store shelves to succeed last year's Ryzen AI 9 HX Pro 370 options. Much like Intel's vPro family, the Ryzen Pro CPUs are commonly found on business-centric laptops requiring additional hardware-based security features. Judging from our tests, however, don't expect the new CPU to offer all that much more.

Our benchmarks below compare the Ryzen AI 9 HX Pro 470 in the new Dell Pro 7 14 with the older Ryzen AI 9 HX Pro 370 in the Lenovo ThinkPad P14s Gen 6. On paper, both Zen 5 CPUs are identical when it comes to architecture, core count, cache sizes, and power envelope targets. The main difference instead lies in the slightly faster target clock rates of the Ryzen AI 9 HX Pro 470 meaning that the processor is essentially a rebrand of last year's Ryzen AI 9 HX Pro 370. Raw multi-thread performance with the newer CPU is unsurprisingly just a few percentage points faster on average.

Performance sustainability has unfortunately not been improved. When running CineBench R15 xT in a loop, for example, the initial score of 3274 points would dip to 2709 points representing a 17 percent performance deficit after just a short period of time.

Graphics performance is slower than expected as well despite the CPU carrying the same integrated Radeon 890M as its predecessor. 3DMark results with the Dell Pro are roughly 20 percent slower than what we recorded on the aforementioned Lenovo.

Different models with the same Ryzen AI 9 HX Pro 470 will likely return slightly different numbers than our Dell Pro example, but if you're trying to save some dough during these rampocalypse times, then less expensive systems with the older Ryzen AI 9 HX Pro 370 are going to give an almost identical experience.
