Asus releases new gaming laptop globally with Mini LED display and more powerful processor

Earlier this year, Asus released the ROG Strix Scar 18 2026 with Intel's Core Ultra 9 290HX Plus processor, a 450 W power adapter and a 4K/240 Hz Mini LED display (curr. $4,299 on Amazon). Now, the company has turned to the ROG Strix 18 2026 with the same 24-core processor.
According to our benchmarks, the 2026 model will only achieve marginally higher CPU performance compared to our 2025 review unit. However, Asus now allows the ROG Strix G18's display to reach 300 Hz when set to Ultimate GPU mode, rather than 240 Hz in the case of its predecessor. Also, higher configurations now come with a Mini LED panel. While this alternative display matches its cheaper sibling with a 1600p resolution and a 240 Hz refresh rate, its circa 2,000 local dimming zones deliver up to 1,200 nits peak brightness.
Asus claims to have refined its design for the 2026 edition, thanks to chamfered edges. Still, the ROG Strix G18 weighs over 3 kg and retains its predecessor's 90 Wh battery. A built-in numberpad returns too, as does a mechanical trackpad and a per-key RGB backlit keyboard.
Pricing starts at CAD 3,099 in Canada and €2,699 in the Eurozone for a variant sporting a single Thunderbolt 4 port and a GeForce RTX 5060 laptop GPU. Elsewhere, the ROG Strix G18 2026 features at least the GeForce RTX 5070 Ti combined with dual Thunderbolt 5 ports and the same Core Ultra 9 290HX Plus processor as its cheaper Thunderbolt 4 alternative.
Currently, GeForce RTX 5070 Ti SKUs cost at least CAD 4,399, €3,099, HKD 27,998, £2,899 and $3,299 in Canada, the Eurozone, Hong Kong, the UK and the US, respectively. A GeForce RTX 5080 model with a Mini LED display is available in some markets too, albeit for over 25% more than its GeForce RTX 5070 Ti counterpart. At the time of writing, Asus sells a GeForce RTX 5080-backed model for £3,699 (~$4,795) in the UK with 32 GB of RAM and a 2 TB SSD. Please see Asus' website for more details.
