This RTX 5060-powered gaming laptop sports a 165 Hz display, and is now $600 off

Folks on the lookout for a capable gaming laptop will almost certainly have to deal with heavily inflated prices, mostly due to the rising DRAM and storage costs, which is in turn due to the massive investments that companies are pouring into data centers.

Thankfully, attractive discounts do continue to surface every once in a while, providing at least some relief to those who do not have massive budgets. For instance, Walmart is now offering the Gigabyte Aero X16 gaming laptop with a major $600 discount, bringing its price down to just under $1,100.

Aero X16: Gaming laptop with an RTX 5060, Ryzen AI 7, and 165 Hz display

This specific variant of the well-reviewed gaming laptop sports an Nvidia GeForce RTX 5060 Laptop GPU with 8 GB of GDDR7 VRAM, a relatively decent AMD Ryzen AI 7 350 chip paired with 16 GB of RAM, and a 1 TB PCIe Gen 4 SSD. A rather pleasing 16-inch 1600p IPS display with a refresh rate of 165 Hz is also on offer.

According to our in-depth review of the Aero X16 gaming laptop, the laptop performs admirably in CPU workloads, with stable performance even under load. The 8-core AMD Ryzen AI 7 350 managed to score around 920 points in Cinebench 2024, putting it roughly in the same league as an Intel Core Ultra 7 155H.

However, we were rather disappointed with the GPU performance of our Aero X16, which was equipped with a higher-tier RTX 5070 Laptop GPU with an 85-watt TGP. There was very little improvement over previous-gen parts with similar power profiles, which is far from impressive.

Perhaps more importantly, the 8 GB of VRAM, which is obviously not upgradable, might not be enough to keep up with modern AAA games two or three years down the road. This obviously applies to the RTX 5060 variant on sale as well, since it also comes equipped with 8 GB of VRAM (also 384 GB/s). While fan noise is well-controlled in most scenarios, it does become very audible when the laptop is stressed.

The 16-inch IPS display is not exactly eye-popping, but is plenty good for gaming

We were quite impressed with the Aero X16 gaming laptop's display, which happens to be a 16-inch unit with a resolution of 2560 x 1600 and refresh rate of 165 Hz. The panel covers 96% of the sRGB color gamut, which is great for content consumption. However, only 68% of the P3 color gamut is covered, which makes it a no-go for color sensitive work. Color accuracy, however, is very decent.

The RAM is upgradeable, courtesy of dual SODIMM slots. The storage can also be upgraded, via the two M.2 2280 slots. Other notable details include a 1080p webcam, WiFi 6E, Gigabit Ethernet, and a decent selection of ports. That said, the presence of a USB 2.0 Type-A port is rather laughable in 2026.
