Pre-orders for Velocity Micro’s maiden Android tablet have begun

Velocity Micro has been working really hard to launch a few products on the Android OS platform. One of them is the Cruz Tablet which was introduced by the company about a month ago. And now, Velocity has started taking orders for the tablet which it will start shipping from September. The Cruz Tablet will also be available in stores from the same month.

According to the official website, the tablet will feature a 7-inch, 800 x 480 pixel capacitive touchscreen display with an aspect ratio of 16:9. The device will have 512MB of memory and 4GB of internal storage, bundled with an 8GB SD card. It will run on Android 2.1 OS and will have 802.11n wifi and the usual mini USB port as standard. The Cruz Tablet also features a tilt activated accelerometer and will have a good amount of software included, like a Dictionary, Notepad, Calendar, Alarm Clock, Contacts, Games and some other useful utilities. A Li-Ion battery will provide power back-up to the Cruz Tablet and the company claims it will give you a good 10+ hours of run time and 24+ hours of standby time.

The tablet also comes loaded with the Cruz Market for you to download your favorite games, apps and much more. It also comes bundled with the Borders E-book library portal application which will give you access to over 2 Million ebooks. Although, the inclusion of the Cruz Market only goes on to indicate that the Android market app will be missing, which will deprive the users of the thousands of apps the are there in the Google Android market . The device, priced at a mere $299.99, is probably one of the cheapest Android based tablets available till date. Although one cannot expect a high degree of quality from such a cheap device.
