Xiaomi releases new luxury smartwatch with 2,500 nit AMOLED and up to 21 days battery life

Xiaomi has now released the Watch S5 alongside the Book Pro 14 laptop. Building on last year's Watch S4 (curr. $190 - used on Amazon), the Watch S5 drops to a 46 mm case size despite accommodating a larger display. This time, Xiaomi has included a 1.48-inch panel, up from the 1.43-inch equivalent in the larger Watch S4.
Additionally, this new AMOLED display outputs at 480 x 480 pixels with a 323 PPI pixel density, 1,500 nits full panel brightness and 2,500 nits peak brightness in certain conditions. Meanwhile, Xiaomi rates the Watch S5's 815 mAh for up to 21 days of battery life in power saving mode and 9 days with its always-on display functionality enabled.
Xiaomi claims that the Watch S5 delivers 98.4% heart monitoring accuracy too, thanks to an improved sensor array. Likewise, sleep monitoring and GPS accuracy are said to have been improved compared to the older Watch S4.
The Xiaomi Watch S5 starts at CNY 1,099 (~$159) in Black and Silver finishes. Meanwhile, the more luxurious Forged Carbon and Midnight Blue versions cost CNY 1,299 (~$189). Likewise, Xiaomi charges the same price for its sole eSIM version. International availability remains unknown for now.
