Futurewave O-Boy smartwatch aims to save lives rather than count steps

The designers at Futurewave from Brussels have developed a smartwatch that could hardly look more unusual, as the outwardly curved case with gigantic screen edges differs from practically all other smartwatches on the market. The round display is tiny and primarily shows an analog dial.
The special feature: the large, red button on the right-hand side of the case sends an emergency call via a satellite network, so that this emergency call function should also work without a smartphone or mobile network. Although the Apple Watch Ultra 3 ($862 on Amazon) can also send a satellite emergency call, Apple's flagship smartwatch is aimed at a different target group with its high price, gigantic range of functions and iPhone requirement.
Futurewave O-Boy is water-resistant and the housing is also designed to withstand high pressure and drops to ensure that the emergency call function actually works when it is needed. O-Boy does without typical smartwatch features such as the display of incoming notifications, a heart rate sensor, fitness apps or sleep and cycle tracking - the concept design envisages that the watch will only display the time and save lives if necessary.
Pricing and availability
The Futurewave O-Boy is currently only a concept; it is not yet clear if or when the watch will be launched on the market. More information can be found at on the Futurewave website.
