Polar Street X launches as $249 smartwatch with LED flashlight and GPS navigation

At first glance, the Polar Street X looks like a typical sports smartwatch, as Polar relies on a polymer housing that is water-resistant up to 5 ATM and should be able to withstand shocks and falls without any problems. The frame is fastened with eight screws, which should distribute the force of impacts evenly - Polar has not yet confirmed whether the clearly visible screws on the front allow for easy battery replacement.
The 1.28-inch AMOLED display is protected from scratches by Gorilla Glass 3. With a 275 MHz single-core processor and only 32 MB of memory, the Polar Street X is only moderately powerful, but should achieve a reasonable battery life of 10 days with normal use or 43 hours of active training. Perhaps the biggest special feature of the "city sports watch" is the integrated LED flashlight, which can light up both white and red - this should make road running at night more comfortable.
The optical Precision Prime Sensor measures heart rate and skin temperature, but Polar does not have an ECG or a blood oxygen sensor. The smartwatch supports more than 170 sports modes and sleep tracking. Polar installs a GPS module to record the distance covered while running and cycling without a smartphone or to navigate using a simple map app. The Polar Street X does not have an NFC chip for contactless payment or integrated music storage.
Prices and availability
The Polar Street X smartwatch is available now for a recommended retail price of $249 in Snow White, Forest Green or Night Black. The smartwatch can be ordered directly from the manufacturer. This makes the Street X cheaper than the Vantage M3 ($399 on Amazon).
