Panasonic Lumix ZS300 compact camera launches with 1-inch sensor, 15x zoom and OIS
The brand new Panasonic Lumix TZ300, known in the US as Lumix ZS300, is the successor to the Lumix TZ200 from 2018. The upgrade of the TZ300 is similarly minimal to the TZ99 ($589 on Amazon) from the previous year. First and foremost, Panasonic has replaced the micro USB port with a USB-C port, which can also be used to charge the camera, and updated Bluetooth from version 4.2 to 5.0.
However, Panasonic has removed the electronic viewfinder without replacement, although the price has been increased. This means that the camera offers significantly worse value for money than in 2018, not least because the core components remain unchanged and are therefore somewhat outdated. The Lumix ZS300 combines a 20.1 megapixel CMOS sensor in 1 inch format with a zoom lens with a 35 mm equivalent focal length of 24 - 360 mm and a maximum aperture of f/3.3 - f/6.4, depending on the focal length.
The lens is stabilized on five axes (OIS) to enable sharp photos with a longer exposure time and more stable videos. A macro mode makes it possible to focus on objects that are only 3 centimetres away from the front lens. The camera can record 4K video at 30 frames per second and 1,080p slow motion at up to 120 frames per second. The Lumix ZS300 can record photos either as RAW or JPEG, the latter of which can be customized with 22 filters to achieve the desired look. Photos can be transferred to a smartphone via WLAN.
Prices and availability
The Panasonic Lumix DC-ZS300 / DC-TZ300 will be launched in the US for $899, and in Europe for a recommended retail price of €999. The compact camera will be available in either gray or black. Further details can be found on the official product page.
