Compact Frog RS1 smartphone hides gamepad or keyboard under square display

The Frog RS1 is one of the most unusual smartphone designs of the year, because while even relatively compact smartphones such as the Apple iPhone 17 ($792 on Amazon) are equipped with a 6.3-inch display, the square screen of the Frog RS1 with a screen diagonal of 3.4 inches is downright tiny by modern smartphone standards.
However, the very small, square display could lead to display problems with apps that have been optimized for much larger screens. The display is attached to a base with a hinge that allows it to be rotated by 180 degrees. Depending on the variant of the Frog RS1, there is either a gamepad or a keyboard with dedicated WhatsApp and Facebook buttons under the display to open the corresponding apps.
As the gamepad does without analog sticks, it is particularly suitable for controlling retro games that were originally developed for handhelds such as the Nintendo Game Boy. The manufacturer has not yet confirmed any details about the features of the Frog RS1. However, the very wide screen edges and the single, very small camera on the back indicate that it is a comparatively inexpensive smartphone.
Pricing and availability
There is currently no information on whether or when the Frog RS1 Android smartphone will be launched on the market. As Shenzhen Frog Technology also acts as an ODM, it is conceivable that the smartphone could be sold under a different brand name if a company wants to launch it on the market.
