Affordable 35 mm full-frame lens promises high speed and low weight

Samyang is expanding its lens portfolio with a 35 mm f/1.8 full-frame lens for Sony E cameras. 35 mm f/1.8 lenses are not uncommon, but the new model from Samyang is not only significantly cheaper than the Sony SEL35F18F ($848 on Amazon), but also 23 percent lighter with a weight of 216 grams.
Despite its low weight and relatively affordable price, the lens is intended to achieve high image quality, for which Samyang relies on a construction of ten lenses in eight groups, including two lenses with aspherically ground surfaces and two newly developed XHR elements, which are intended to reduce image aberrations through more precise manufacturing. The integrated STM II autofocus motor is said to be both quieter and faster than older Samyang lenses.
A dedicated slider allows you to switch between autofocus and manual focus. The lens offers a minimum focus distance of 0.27 meters and a filter thread with a diameter of 62 millimeters. As Samyang cannot install firmware updates directly via the camera, the manufacturer has installed a USB-C port in the mount, which can be used to install updates.
