Xiaomi launches new budget smartphone with 5G connectivity and updates until 2032

Xiaomi has expanded its Redmi 15 series again with a new 5G model. To recap, the company already sells the Redmi 15 4G and Redmi 15 5G, as well as the Redmi 15C 4G and the Redmi 15C 5G (curr. $204 on Amazon). Now, it has added to these four smartphones with the Redmi 15A.
Another 5G-enabled smartphone, the Redmi 15A combines the Unisoc T8300 chipset with 4 GB or 6 GB of LPDDR4X RAM. A 6 nm chipset, the Unisoc T8300 features two ARM Cortex-A78 cores running at 2.2 GHz, six Cortex-A55 cores at 2 GHz and a Mali-G57 MP2 GPU that can reach 950 MHz. Additionally, Xiaomi includes a 6,300 mAh battery with support for 15 W wired and 7.5 reverse wired charging.

The Redmi 15A 5G also finds itself with a 6.9-inch IPS display that delivers a 720p resolution, a 120 Hz refresh rate, 800 nits peak brightness and 83% NTSC colour space coverage. Xiaomi equips the device with an 8 MP front-facing camera (f/2.0) too, but only a single 32 MP rear-facing camera (f/2.0). MicroSD card expansion is supported though, as is wired audio via a 3.5 mm jack.
The Redmi 15A 5G will ship with HyperOS 3.0 based on Android 16 but should receive four major OS updates throughout its lifespan, plus security patch updates until 2032. Sales start on April 3 with three memory configurations and three colours at launch. The Redmi 15A 5G will start at INR 12,999 (~$137) with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage. The device can be configured with up to 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage for INR 16,499 (~$175). There is no word on international availability yet, though.
