The launch of the new Nvidia GeForce RTX 5000 Laptop GPUs was pretty bumpy and corresponding laptops with the new GeForce RTX 5090 Laptop as well as RTX 5080 Laptop are just starting to hit the shelves. The next model in the line-up is the RTX 5070 Ti Laptop, but the situation is even more problematic. The review embargo was already in the beginning of April, but there were simply no corresponding laptops available. As one of the first review sites, we now have the chance to review the new RTX 5070 Ti Laptop.
April 30, 2025 update: The supply situation seems to be better for the GeForce RTX 5070 Laptop, because we can already provide comprehensive benchmarks in time for the review embargo.
Overview - RTX 5000 Blackwell
In our analysis of the two models GeForce RTX 5090 Laptop as well as RTX 5080 Laptop we have already talked about the technical specifications of the new GPU generation, so we just want to focus on the most important aspects. The RTX 5070 Ti Laptop is sitting between the RTX 5080 Laptop and the RTX 5070 Laptop with 12 GB VRAM, 5888 CUDA cores and a maximum clock of 2640 MHz.
The power limits are interesting, because the RTX 5070 Ti Laptop can be configured with power levels between 60-115 Watts plus up to 25 Watts Dynamic Boost from the processor. The old GeForce RTX 4070 Laptop was also available with a TGP of up to 140 Watts, which was a bit confusing since this value was only reached in synthetic stress tests like FurMark, for example. The actual consumption during gaming on the other hand maxed out a around 105-110 Watts. We can already share that the RTX 5070 Ti Laptop benefits from the high power limit of 140 Watts during gaming.
April 30, 2025 update: The review embargo for the new GeForce RTX 5070 Laptop just dropped as well and we were able to test the performance with an engineering sample of Gigabyte Aero X16. It is the 85-Watt version, so we are still a little bit off the maximum 100 Watt TGP.
Test systems - XMG Pro 16 (E25) & Gigabyte Aero X16
The test system is an engineering sample of the new XMG Pro 16 (E25) equipped with the fastest 140-Watt version of the GeForce RTX 5070 Ti Laptop (115 Watts TGP + 25 Watts Dynamic Boost). The GPU is coupled with the new high-end processor Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX, so there is no bottleneck. In addition it is equipped with 32 GB RAM (DDR5-5600). We will publish a full review of the new XMG Pro 16 very soon.
When you configure the new XMG models, you get an idea about the prices of the new high-end GPUs. If you switch from the RTX 5070 Ti Laptop to the RTX 5080 Laptop, you have to pay almost 600 Euros, while the upgrade to the RTX 5090 Laptop costs 1450 Euros more than the RTX 5070 Ti Laptop.
April 30, 2025 update: The Gigabyte Aero X16 is one of the first devices with the new GeForce RTX 5070 Laptop. It is equipped with 8 GB VRAM and the power limit is 85 Watts (including Dynamic Boost), so it is not the fastest version of the 5070 Laptop (up to 100 Watt TGP). The processor of the engineering sample is the AMD Ryzen AI 7 350 in combination with 32 GB RAM (DDR5-5600). The full review of the new Aero X16 will be published soon.
Testing Conditions
In order to get meaningful results, we compare the different GPU models in synthetic tests but also check the power consumption, which results in efficiency numbers. The consumption measurements are performed when the laptop is attached to an external screen, so we can eliminate different panel sizes and technologies as influences. The other components (especially CPU, RAM) can obviously influence the results as well.
We are also focusing on the fastest versions of mobile GPUs to compare the maximum amount of performance. Depending on the TGP configuration, however, there will be significant differences and you might even find a scenario where the RTX 5070 Ti laptop will be faster the RTX 5080 Laptop with a lower power limit, for example.
April 30, 2025 update: The RTX 5070 Laptop is the 85-Watt version, so we also added the old ROG Zephyrus G16 (80 Watt TGP in performance mode) as well as the Zenbook Pro 14 (90 Watt TGP) with the RTX 4070 Laptop to the comparison tables to get more accurate performance comparisons.
Synthetic Benchmarks
As per usual, we start with synthetic benchmark results. The new RTX 5070 Ti Laptop is roughly on par with the old RTX 4080 Laptop. The deficit compared to the new RTX 5080 Laptop as well as the RTX 4090 Laptop is around 20 %. Both the RTX 4070 Laptop as well as the RTX 3080 Ti Laptop, however, are clearly beaten.
April 30, 2025 update: In the synthetic benchmarks, the new RTX 5070 Laptop is usually just slightly ahead (up to 12 %) of the old RTX 4070 Laptop, but the results are very close overall. The RTX 5070 Ti Laptop is much faster (between 40-60 %).
Gaming Benchmarks - Native
We start with the native gaming performance without upscaling. In many of the 1080p tests, the new RTX 5070 Ti Laptop is basically once again on par with the old RTX 4080 Laptop. Even very demanding titles like Assassin's Creed Shadows can be played smoothly in 1080p.
April 30, 2025 update: The situation is a bit of a mixed bag in the actual gaming benchmarks. In some cases, the performance is on par with the old RTX 4070 Laptop with comparable TGP numbers, but there is a slight advantage in modern titles like Cyberpunk 2077. The RTX 5070 Ti Laptop is about 40 % faster on average. Indiana Jones did not run properly on our test system with the RTX 5070 Laptop, but we will add the results as quickly as possible.

This impression continues in the QHD tests, because the gaming performance is once again comparable to the old RTX 4080 Laptop and the performance is once again sufficient for smooth gameplay in almost all tests. However, we are also facing the first limitation of the new GPU, because the rather memory intensive Indiana Jones already scratches the VRAM limit in 2560 x 1440 pixels and high details. Smooth gameplay was still possible, but the addition of DLSS, Path Tracing and Frame Generation are too demanding and make it unplayable.
April 30, 2025: We already got some VRAM limitation warning with the RTX 5070 Laptop in the QHD resolution (AC Shadows, Black Ops 6), but smooth gameplay was still possible. The performance compared to the other mobile GPUs is similar to the 1080p tests.

The new GPU is getting pretty close the 30 fps mark in the 4K resolution, so smooth gameplay cannot always be ensured. Indiana Jones in 4K just works, but there are noticeable frame drops, so you will not enjoy the game.
April 30, 2025 update: The 4K resolution is often too demanding for RTX 5070 Laptop and the VRAM limitation issue is even more severe, which also resulted in noticeable frame drops.

Gaming Benchmarks - DLSS & Frame Generation
We also compared the DLSS and MFG performance with the fast versions of the RTX 5080 Laptop, RTX 5090 Laptop as well as RTX 4090 Laptop in several modern titles. As expected, the RTX 5070 Ti Laptop does not stand a chance against the more expensive rivals. Our benchmark results for DLSS and Frame Generation are still limited, but we will try to add results for the RTX 4080 Laptop as well as RTX 4070 laptop as quickly as possible.
April 30, 2025 update: The regular RTX 5070 Laptop also supports DLSS4 as well as multi frame generation. However, this also slightly increases the VRAM requirements, which is obviously not ideal.

April 30, 2025 update: The majority of modern gaming laptops is equipped with WQHD screens (2560 x 1600 pixels), so we also performed additional gaming benchmarks. We used the two titles Cyberpunk 2077 as well as Alan Wake 2 with the highest possible settings including Path Tracing. It is also a good showcase for DLSS4 and Frame Generation if it is well implemented.
In Cyberpunk 2077, even the two high-end models RTX 5090 Laptop and RTX 5080 Laptop did not manage playable frame rates without upscaling. This is obviously the same situation for the RTX 5070 Ti Laptop and the regular RTX 5070 Laptop only manages 5 fps. The two GPUs already manage good results north of 30 fps in the DLSS Performance setting. If you activate Frame Generation, however, the RTX 5070 Laptop starts to struggle and the performance actually drops again.

The situation is similar in Alan Wake 2, because the native performance of the two RTX 5070 Laptop GPUs is not powerful enough for smooth gameplay. As expected, the performance is much better with activated upscaling and Frame Generation also works on the RTX 5070 Laptop.

Performance at lower power limits
The new GPUs once again cover a wide TGP range, so we also checked the performance at lower power limits. You can clearly see that there is some overlap, like in the case of the 140W version of the RTX 5070 Ti Laptop and the 100W version of the RTX 5080 Laptop. However, the RTX 5070 Ti Laptop cannot challenge the RTX 5090 Laptop. This means even more confusion for the users and shows how important it is that manufacturers disclose the TGP numbers. We could not adjust the power limit of the RTX 5070 Laptop in the Gigabyte Aero X16, so we will repeat the tests with another sample soon.

Efficiency
For our GPU efficiency measurements we use the older title The Witcher 3 as well as Cyberpunk 2077 running on an external screen. We use the native 1080p settings without upscaling.
In our two test scenarios, the new RTX 5070 Ti Laptops falls a bit short of the faster siblings. The sweet spot for the new GPU should be at lower power settings, but we will test that over the next couple of days. The current Cyberpunk test shows improved efficiency over the RTX 4080 Laptop, which fits the comparable performance figures at a slightly lower power consumption.
April 30, 2025 update: The GeForce RTX 5070 Laptop in the Gigabyte Aero X16 performs well in terms of efficiency and can also beat the rivals with the old RTX 4070 Laptop, but the review unit certainly benefits from the rather efficient AMD Ryzen AI 7 350.

Verdict - RTX 5070 Ti Laptop is the true successor to the RTX 4070 Laptop, but the regular RTX 5070 Laptop with 8 GB VRAM disappoints
The new GeForce RTX 5070 Ti Laptop offers the expected performance comparable to the old GeForce RTX 4080 Laptop. The power consumption is a bit lower at up to 140 Watts, so the efficiency is slightly better. Compared to the old RTX 4070 Laptop, the new RTX 5070 Ti laptop can actually benefit from the maximum power limit of 140 Watts during gaming. The bottleneck is the VRAM at 12 GB and we already ran into some issues in the QHD resolution with very memory intensive games, and the situation will certainly not be better in the years to come.
The new GeForce RTX 5070 Laptop on the other hand is pretty disappointing, because the performance at similar power levels if often just slightly better compared to the old GeForce RTX 4070 Laptop. There is no real performance improvement and it still uses 8 GB VRAM. This can quickly become an issue in QHD and you will be limited to 1080p as a result. You can obviously use DLSS4 and Frame Generation to improve the fps numbers, but the implementation is not always consistent and it does not solve the VRAM issue, either. If the technology works, however, the performance improvements are impressive.
Customers now face the situation that there are two successors to the old RTX 4070 Laptop, which is confusing, especially when you also consider different power limits. The small performance improvements of the regular RTX 5070 Laptop over the old RTX 4070 Laptop is not a great indicator for the smaller Blackwell GPUs that will be released in the near future.
