XMG presents a completely new design for its 2025 gaming/workstation hybrid Pro 16 and uses powerful components including the new Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070 Ti Laptop. In terms of the CPU, you can choose between the old Core i9-13900HX and the current Core Ultra 9 275HX (+275 Euros), which also includes support for Thunderbolt 4 as well as PCIe 5.0. If you want to save some money, the gaming performance of the Core i9-13900HX is also very good.
XMG uses the fastest 140W version of the new RTX 5070 Ti Laptop, and GPU can utilize the high TGP while gaming. The performance is basically comparable to the old high-end GPU RTX 4080 Laptop, so it is no problem to play games in the QHD resolution. The matte IPS screen reaches more than 500 nits and covers the full sRGB gamut with accurate colors. Gamers will be happy about fast response times, the 300 Hz refresh rate, as well as the lack of PWM flickering. You will, however, have to waive HDR contents or crisp colors with high contrast ratios known from OLED panels.
The chassis design of the new Pro 16 shares similarities with the high-end model Neo 16, but the base unit of the Pro 16 is made of plastic. Both the build quality and stability, however, are very good and you get good maintenance options (2x SO-DIMM slots, 2x M.2-2280-SSD) as well as a decent variety of ports and port layout. The input devices are comfortable, and the Pro 16 manages surprisingly good runtimes with around 9 hours in our Wi-Fi runtime test.
The comparatively low price does mean you will have to live without some features like Advanced Optimus GPU switching. A MUX switch is available, but you will have to reboot the system to deactivate the iGPU. Wi-Fi 7 is not available, either, just like Thunderbolt 5. There are simply some compromises for the price, but all in all, the new Pro 16 (E25) still offers a good price-performance ratio and good performance figures.
