Verdict - Zenbook A14 with Snapdragon X2 Elite is impressive, especially at $1149
The updated Asus Zenbook A14 is once again a very portable 14-inch laptop with ling battery runtimes, but the addition of the new Snapdragon X2 Elite processor elevates the overall performance to a completely new level. It offers more CPU performance than any other direct rival with Intel or AMD chips, even when you use the barely audible Whisper model. The GPU performance is also very good and it is very efficient. The 1200p OLED is still limited to 60 Hz, but still offers very good image quality.
If you use the maximum performance, the fans will be very audible, but this is not required for everyday usage scenarios and the overall performance impression is excellent, even on battery power. There can still be limitations due to Windows on ARM and we recommend you check the app support before you purchase a Snapdragon laptop, but the overall experience is much more polished compared to the original Snapdragon X launch.
The base model for $1149 with the powerful X2 Elite and 24 GB RAM offers a really good price performance ratio and you will have a hard time finding a comparable device. Apple's MacBook Air 13 M5 will be the main rival and starts at $1099 with the slower GPU and 16 GB RAM.
Pros
Cons
Price and Availability
The new Zenbook A14 starts at $1149 and will be available at Best Buy.
Asus updates its extremely lightweight 14-inch subnotebook Zenbook A14 and it is the first device with Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon X2 Elite chip, so it gets a massive performance increase compared to the previous model with the old Snapdragon X Plus. The chassis weighs under 1 kg and the construction did not change, which also includes the 60 Hz OLED screen. The base model starts at $1149 with the X2 Elite SoC, 24 GB RAM and 512 GB SSD storage, while our review unit is the SKU with 32 GB RAM and 1 TB SSD storage for $1799. please also see our Snapdragon X2 Extreme analysis.
Specifications
Case and Connectivity
The chassis construction did not change and Asus still uses Ceraluminum (combination of ceramic and aluminum), and the new Zenbook A14 once again stays under 1 kg. The stability is still very good, but our review unit suffered from some light creaking sounds from the hinges. The hinges are also a bit too loose. You can get the device either in Iceland Gray or Zabriski Beige. maintenance options are still limited to the single M.2-2280 SSD.
Connectivity remains unchanged with two USB-C 4.0 ports, HDMI as well as a regular USB-A port. The Wi-Fi 7 module supports Bluetooth 6.0 and manages excellent transfer rates in combination with a Wi-Fi 7 router. The 1080p webcam takes acceptable images and all of Microsoft's Copilot+ features are supported.

Input Devices
The input devices did not change, either, which means the backlit keyboard with 1.3 mm travel offers a comfortable typing experience, even though it is not quite good as on other Zenbook models due to the slightly spongy feedback. The clickpad once again works very well and it is sufficiently sized at 12.7 x 9.7 cm.
Display - Still 60 Hz OLED screen
Asus still uses a glossy 60 Hz OLED screen without touch functionality and the resolution of 1920 x 1200 pixels (16:10). The subjective image quality is still very good with deep blacks and rich colors, but the frequency of 60 Hz can be an issue if you are used to a higher refresh rate. There is PWM flickering at 480 Hz, but the amplitude is small and Asus offers the familiar software solution for flicker-free OLED dimming. Response times are very fast and both the brightness as well as the color temperature can be controlled automatically.
The Samsung OLED screen has the same panel ID as the previous model, but we determine slightly better brightness values: 408 nits in SDR mode and up to 625 nits in HDR mode (604 nits for a completely white image). Asus once again implements very accurate color profiles and you can immediately start editing images. Our calibration software is not supported on ARM Windows, so we could not calibrate the panel.

The display backlight flickers at 480 Hz (worst case, e.g., utilizing PWM) Flickering detected at a brightness setting of 83 % and below. There should be no flickering or PWM above this brightness setting. The frequency of 480 Hz is relatively high, so most users sensitive to PWM should not notice any flickering. However, there are reports that some users are still sensitive to PWM at 500 Hz and above, so be aware. In comparison: 53 % of all tested devices do not use PWM to dim the display. If PWM was detected, an average of 7920 (minimum: 5 - maximum: 343500) Hz was measured. | |||
Performance - Snapdragon X2 Elite

Processor - X2E-88-100
The Zenbook A14 is equipped with the new Snapdragon X2E-88-100 with 18 CPU cores and the performance is excellent. The single-core performance beats any other x86 chip and is just slightly behind the Apple M4. The single-core performance is also 20 % better compared to the old Snapdragon X1 Elite and even 55 % better than the Snapdragon X in the old Zenbook A14. Multi-core performance is even better and the new Snapdragon also clearly beats Apple's M5 SoC and all the direct x86 rivals. The performance advantage over the old Zenbook A14 is massive at 128 %. Please see our in-depth analysis for more information about the chip and the efficiency.

System Performance
The subjective performance impression is still excellent and we did not encounter any stability issues. Compatibility can still be an issue, but our experience was much smoother compared to last year and there are definitely improvements. We still recommend you check if all your apps will run on Windows on ARM before you purchase a Snapdragon laptop.

DPC Latency
We could not run our standardized latency test, but 4K video playback did not result in dropped frames.
Storage Devices
Our review unit is equipped with a Micron 2600 1 TB drive (891 GB free). The performance of the PCIe 4.0 SSD is good, even though the transfer rates will start to fluctuate under sustained workloads.

GPU Performance
The new Adreno X2-90 GPU of the X2E-88-100 runs at 1700 MHz and consumes up to 18 Watts, which is pretty much identical to Apple's current M5 10-core GPU and the performance is also pretty much identical. Intel's new Panther Lake GPUs are faster, but also consume much more power, while the old Lunar Lake GPUs as well as AMD's Radeon 890M/880M are beaten. The advantage over the old Zenbook A14 is once again massive.
The gaming performance is also very good and once again only beaten by the new Panther Lake iGPUs. Qualcomm improved the compatibility and we had less problems during our gaming benchmarks. Game Pass is now supported, just like Epic's anti-cheat software, so you can play Fortnite, for example. There can still be issues though, and we could not run F1 24 or F1 25, for example. Please see our analysis for more information.

Emissions & Power Consumption
System Noise
The Zenbook A14 stays very quiet during everyday situations, even in Performance mode. As mentioned before, we would always recommend Whisper mode if you do not need the maximum performance, because the performance is still excellent and you can only barely hear the fans at 28 dB(A) even under maximum load. In Performance mode, the fans will get much louder (up to 51.7 dB(A), then quickly settle at 48.7 dB(A)). We did not hear any other electronic noises.

Temperature
The surface temperatures are usually very cool, the only exception is the rear section on the bottom when you really stress the laptop in Performance mode. Up to 47 °C is still not critical and the keyboard stays much cooler. The CPU levels off at 31 Watts during our stress test.
(±) The maximum temperature on the upper side is 40.9 °C / 106 F, compared to the average of 35.9 °C / 97 F, ranging from 21.4 to 59 °C for the class Subnotebook.
(-) The bottom heats up to a maximum of 47.2 °C / 117 F, compared to the average of 39.3 °C / 103 F
(+) In idle usage, the average temperature for the upper side is 22.9 °C / 73 F, compared to the device average of 30.8 °C / 87 F.
(±) 3: The average temperature for the upper side is 33.9 °C / 93 F, compared to the average of 30.8 °C / 87 F for the class Subnotebook.
(+) The palmrests and touchpad are cooler than skin temperature with a maximum of 25.8 °C / 78.4 F and are therefore cool to the touch.
(+) The average temperature of the palmrest area of similar devices was 28.2 °C / 82.8 F (+2.4 °C / 4.4 F).

Battery Life
battery runtimes with the 70 Wh battery are still very good and we determine 16 hours in our Wi-Fi test at 150 nits, which is pretty much identical to the MacBook Air 13 M5. At maximum panel brightness, however, the Zenbook still manages almost 11 hours and therefore 4 hours more than the MacBook.
