Verdict - Galaxy Book5 Pro 14 benefits from Lunar Lake
The Galaxy Book5 Pro 14 benefits from the more efficient Lunar Lake processor, which enables longer battery runtimes in addition to increased single-core and GPU performance. However, despite the high price, our test device only offers 16 GB of RAM, which cannot be expanded. The OLED screen still provides very good picture quality, but is slowly losing ground to the competition, especially in terms of brightness.
Compared to the MacBook Air 13 M4, the Galaxy Book5 Pro has to admit defeat in terms of performance and battery life, and the Air still has the advantage of silent cooling. When it comes to the display, however, Samsung is ahead with its OLED panel (better picture quality, higher 120 Hz refresh rate).
All in all, the new Galaxy Book5 Pro 14 is a slim and good, but also expensive ultrabook.
Pros
Cons
Price and availability
The Galaxy Book5 Pro 14 with the higher-end Core Ultra 7 is available on Amazon for US$1,449.
Samsung has updated its slim and compact 14-inch laptop, and the Galaxy Book5 Pro 14 is now equipped with Intel's efficient Lunar Lake processors. We test the variant with the Core Ultra 5 226V, 16 GB RAM and 512 GB SSD memory for an RRP of 1,699 euros. There is also a variant with the Core Ultra 7 258V, 32 GB RAM and 1 TB SSD storage for 2,299 euros.
Specifications
Case & equipment
Nothing has changed on the outside of the Galaxy Book5 Pro 14 compared to the old model. At 11.6 mm, it remains very thin, and the metal case appears to be of very high quality overall. The flawless workmanship and stability also match this. The RAM is part of the processor and cannot be replaced; however, there are two full-blown M.2 2280 slots for SSDs. The Wi-Fi module now supports Wi-Fi 7, and there are plenty of ports, including Thunderbolt 4. The microSD card reader remains quite awkward to use.

Input devices - Precise, but short stroke
Nothing has changed with the input devices either. The black keyboard is backlit and offers very precise feedback; however, you should try it out before buying due to its short travel distance. The ClickPad is easy to use, but the clicking noises are excessively loud. The touchscreen is also available for input.
Display - AMOLED with 120 Hz
Samsung still uses a familiar AMOLED touchscreen with a resolution of 2,880 x 1,800 pixels and a refresh rate of 120 Hz. The picture quality remains very good, with high contrast and rich colors, but there are now competitors that offer significantly more brightness. We measured 400 cd/m² in SDR mode and a maximum of 534 cd/m² in HDR mode. The response times are extremely fast, but there is PWM flickering at 240 Hz at all brightness levels. The strong reflections are also problematic.
Samsung provides color profiles for P3 and sRGB, and our analysis with the professional CalMAN software shows a good display ex-works, which we were able to improve slightly with our own calibration. The corresponding profile can be downloaded for free in the box on the right.

The display backlight flickers at 240 Hz (worst case, e.g., utilizing PWM) Flickering detected at a brightness setting of 100 % and below. There should be no flickering or PWM above this brightness setting. The frequency of 240 Hz is relatively low, so sensitive users will likely notice flickering and experience eyestrain at the stated brightness setting and below. In comparison: 53 % of all tested devices do not use PWM to dim the display. If PWM was detected, an average of 8211 (minimum: 5 - maximum: 343500) Hz was measured. |
Performance - Lunar Lake
Test conditions
We ran the benchmarks in the default Optimized mode.
Processor
Our test device features the Intel Core Ultra 5 226V (Lunar Lake) on board, which has significantly lower short-term power consumption compared to the older Meteor Lake chip. While the old model consumed up to 60 watts, it is now a maximum of 30 watts. This naturally affects the multi-core performance, but the single-core performance is better. The performance also remains stable in battery mode.
