The Acer Aspire 3 A315-51-55E4 is a notebook that convinces with its thought-out equipment. It is an affordable all-round notebook with good computing performance. It is suitable for students, small businesses and private users alike. The well thought-out hardware configuration with a fast processor and a large, matte Full-HD display enables productive work and multimedia fun. The notebook comes pre-installed with the 64-bit version of Microsoft Windows 10, which is ideally suited for those types of tasks. The Acer Aspire is made for entertainment, its 15.6-inch display with a Full-HD resolution (1920 x 1080 pixels) can be seen clearly even in bright surroundings. The matte surface ensures fatigue-free, eye-protecting operation with Full-HD Acer ComfyView. If the laptop’s display is not enough, users have the option to connect this model to an LCD monitor or beamer via cable. Aside from that, a running time of up to 6.5 hours also allows for long hours of usage thanks to the notebook’s 4810mAh (2-cell) battery. A comfortable input method is provided by the standard-sized keyboard, which also has a practical number pad, and a multi-gesture touchpad. The laptop measures 381.6 x 259 x 21.6 mm (W x D x H) and weighs 2.1 kg.
It does not matter whether it is Office applications, multimedia entertainment or Internet communications, with a fast Intel Core i5-7200U processor that provides a clock speed of 2x 2.5 GHz and 8GB of DDR4 memory, this notebook reliably masters all popular tasks. The clock frequency of Intel's dual-core processor can be increased to 3.1 GHz when boosted by the Turbo Boost technology. The manufacturer allows a maximum of 32 GB RAM in this laptop. The integrated Intel HD Graphics 620 graphic unit relieves the processor in graphics applications and works very efficiently. A fast 256GB SSD provides space for documents, images, movies, and music. For stationary use, the low-cost notebook allows the connection of a monitor, a projector, or a TV via HDMI. It connects to the Internet via fast WLAN 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac or via Gigabit Ethernet. Users can connect external devices such as printers, memory sticks or hard disks via three USB ports, including a fast USB 3.0 port and two USB 2.0 sockets. Bluetooth 4.0 and an integrated card reader are also on board. Video chats with friends and acquaintances are possible with the presence of the built-in webcam. However, the small dimensions do not allow the Acer Aspire 3 A315-51-55E4 to have an optical drive for CDs, DVDs or Blu-rays. The Acer Aspire 3 is a mid-range laptop that has all the needed specs of a good machine and gives a bang for your buck.

The Acer Aspire 3 A315-31-P3ZM is an affordable laptop which delivers decent performance for basic users. It makes a top placement by its basic appearance. This laptop is a practical everyday companion and can be described as a beginner notebook due to its built-in hardware. It will be perfect for those who use their laptops mainly for editing documents with Microsoft Office or browsing the internet. Media playback is also fine, as the Full-HD screen is certainly enough to please the eyes. The laptop has a weight of 2.1 kg and dimensions of 25.9 x 2.1 x 38.1 cm. Dyed in black, the chassis of this notebook is made of plastic. Its delicate cross-hair brush pattern delivers a beautifully inviting tactile finish. The laptop also features a precision touchpad, which is more responsive than traditional touchpads, to help work more effectively. Shaped for comfort and style, the chiclet keyboard stands out with its round-cornered keys. The Acer Aspire 3 A315-31-P3ZM notebook runs with an Intel Pentium N4200 processor, supported by 4 GB of DDR3L-SDRAM. The graphics processor is based on the well-known Intel HD Graphics 505 with integrated video memory (VRAM). Space for data is available on a 128GB SSD and a 1TB HDD, a handy data grave for pictures and videos. The Pentium N4200 processor does not deliver super-high performance, but simple office work and web browsing are not a problem.
The 15.6-inch display provides a resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels. It is a Full-HD display with IPS technology and a hinge with an 180-degree opening angle. It measures a checkerboard contrast of 149:1 and a maximum brightness of 232 cd/m². The display burdens the user less with reflection, light and greasy fingerprints thank to the anti-glare coating. It also features BlueLightShield technology that reduces the exposure of potentially harmful blue light by adjusting color hue and brightness. However, the display is quite dark, so it is only partially usable in bright environments; in direct sunlight, it is practically unreadable. With a Li-ion 2-cell 4810mAh battery, the laptop provides an office battery life of approximately 5 hours. Upon starting a fresh Acer Aspire 3 A315-31-P3ZM, the pre-installed Microsoft Windows 10 Home (64-bit) system is fired up. The connection possibilities are wide and offer a choice of two USB-2.0 and USB-3.0 ports. The Acer Aspire 3 A315-31-P72U comes with 802.11ac WLAN and Bluetooth. The strategically placed 802.11ac wireless antenna helps maintain a strong, consistent wireless signal.

Firstly, there is its low price. Also, the display does not use PWM which allows for continuous reading or working without eye strain. If you make use of our Display Profiles, the display significantly improves its qualities. The matte finish is also a big plus.

Acer Aspire 3 A315-39
It has been a while since I tested an Acer laptop. But my general approach to the Acer name has not changed and it will stay the same. When you see an Acer device, it is easy to assume it will be comparable to other manufacturers’ budget-friendly devices, but on the other hand, you give up on quality. By quality I mean the materials used for the build as well as the build quality.
This model is not for power users, let’s start with that. The biggest disappointment to me is firstly the screen and secondly the RAM. A 1366 x 768 pixel resolution belongs to the 2010s, if you ask me. 4 GB of RAM is a joke, but it can at least be upgraded. The processor is somewhat okay, but it is the main reason why I say this laptop is not for power users.
For office and educational work, it can definitely be used, but even for educational work, the current configuration may not be enough - you may face limitations when it comes to performance. Therefore I would suggest to use this laptop if you are dealing with work that involves a lot typing. Otherwise, well, you might be upset about your purchase.
Speaking of typing, what about the keyboard? It is balanced. I can not say it is as good as any Lenovo keyboard, of course, but it will do the trick, so this is an area where you will not be disappointed.
I briefly mentioned the screen before: It has a TN panel and the viewing angles are narrow. Color coverage? Do not expect much.
Speakers? Meh. Low bass, the highs are noisy.
Simply put, what I am trying to explain here is: Do not expect much. It is a good budget laptop. No new technology aside from an 8th-Gen i3 processor. You will not get any shiny Type-C ports or HDMI 2.0 chimichangas, but you will get what you pay for. It may seem as if I have been criticizing this model - on the contrary, I wanted to make sure that you are aware of what this laptop is for.
It may be a great fit for simple daily usage. Opening up browsers, going through some documents, listening to music, watching videos and voilà, you hit your limits.

For this money, you get a recent Intel CPU, fairly good build quality, a full-HD display, a comfortable keyboard, and decent battery life when doing non-intensive tasks. Acer also gives you easy access to the RAM and hard drive, which is not something we see too often in this segment.

Archive.org versionIf you're looking for a powerful laptop at under £500 then the Acer Aspire 3 fits the bill. The A315-54 has an impressive Core i5 processor which you don't normally see. This means it's got similar raw performance to laptops that cost double the price. Build quality is good too with a decent enough keyboard and a nice range of ports. However, it's not all plain sailing as the screen is just HD resolution and will need to be used at or close to maximum brightness. The battery life is also nothing special.

So, this laptop is not something too impressive. It features new, yet incapable hardware, a small battery, and input devices that are the epitome of compromise. On the other hand, it is not like we expected this to be different. In fact, the battery life is not that bad with just over 8 hours of Web browsing, and roughly 6 hours and a half of video playback. As we said at the beginning, you can’t expect to not make sacrifices at this price point. Moreover, the compromises will be arguably more than the features, so you have to brace yourself. On the other hand, we are happy with Acer’s approach to the device, as it doesn’t look particularly cheap. And despite all of the misfortunes around the machine, the biggest one in our view is the TN panel. So if you happen to find a configuration equipped with an IPS display, it might be worth your hard-earned money. In fact, the 17-inch Acer Aspire 3 (A317-33) came with a fairly decent package.

The 2023 Acer Aspire 3 is one of the most affordable 15.6” laptops on the market. It runs Windows 11 on the AMD Ryzen 3 7320U processor with integrated AMD Radeon graphics. It has a full HD IPS display, WiFi 6, a good selection of ports including HDMI 2.1 and USB-C and it boasts long battery life.

The Acer Aspire 3 (A315-24P) is nothing special. It’s a lower-power machine that can get simple work done and not much else. I wouldn’t recommend it for entertainment or anything beyond basic web browsing and light, office tasks. But it handles those latter tasks with surprisingly little difficulty, and it runs for ages on its battery, thanks to its low-power processor. If you can get it for $379, it’s a decent value. However, when you're already spending $400, it makes sense to jump up to $500 by either saving or financing. While the $499 model is more readily available, and though it might be more powerful, it doesn't compare with what's offered by recommended competitors in the budget space, like the Lenovo IdeaPad 3i 15 (2022) or the Lenovo IdeaPad Windows Duet 5i.

Okay, let’s try to annalize what we just learned. For starters, the Ryzen 3 7320U is a really potent processor. Its Radeon 610M might look bad on paper, and when it comes to synthetic benchmarks, but playing light titles like CS:GO or DOTA2 is actually possible at medium settings and 1080p resolution.But hey, you are probably getting this laptop for a daily driver, since it is a pretty affordable offering. Then, you will be happy to learn that its battery lasts more than 12 hours of Web browsing or nearly 14 hours of video playback. The cooling is also on point, while the display of the device is just what you want! Acer Aspire 3 (A315-24P)’s IPS panel has a Full HD resolution, comfortable viewing angles, a good contrast ratio, and a non-flickering backlight. It does cover only 51% of the sRGB color gamut, which is a disadvantage.Unfortunately, the M.2 PCIe x4 slot is limited to Gen 3 speeds. However, it still supports Gen 4 SSDs, which is nice. Another interesting aspect of this notebook is the lack of memory expansion. It clearly has the space inside, but it is limited to 8GB of LPDDR5 RAM, working at 5500MHz. Let’s hope that Google Chrome doesn’t get any thirstier in the future. To be completely frank, the keyboard is not super comfortable for typing. That’s due to its short key travel, making it harder to distinguish the otherwise clicky feedback. Acer is trying to compensate with a NumberPad and a large touchpad – not a bad strategy. At the end of the day, you shouldn’t expect a very good build quality. But what is more important is that the Acer Aspire 3 (A315-24P) definitely meets the expectations set by its price tag.

What aspires to be the worst thing about this machine is the port selection. Yes, you get three fast USB Type-As, an HDMI connector, and a LAN port. Unfortunately, there is no sign of an SD card slot or a USB Type-C port. This is not typical for a 2023 laptop. Now, the battery life is not bad, but it is not too good either. The reason for that, in our opinion, is the small battery capacity. To be frank, we’ve seen laptops with 38Wh battery packs, which last longer. At the end of the day, the perplexing lack of a USB Type-C port might be a good reason to stay away from the Acer Aspire 3 (A315-59). But, if you don’t care about these little impurities in the crystal, you will get a super stable, fast, reliable, and comfortable computer.

Acer: The company was founded under the name of Multitech in Taiwan in 1976 and renamed to Acer or Acer Group in 1987. The product range includes, for example, laptops, tablets, smartphones, desktops, monitors and televisions. Gateway Inc. and Packard Bell also belong to the Group and sell their own laptops.
While Acer still had the third largest global market share in the notebook segment in 2008, it ranked 6th in 2016 with a market share of 6% after they had continuously lost market shares.

i5-1135G7: A quad-core, mid-range processor of Tiger Lake product family designed for use in ultra-light laptops. The i5 is manufactured on Intel's second-gen 10 nm process marketed as SuperFin and features an 80 EU Iris Xe G7 iGPU. Core i5-1135G7 has a base clock speed of 2.4 GHz as long as it is allowed to consume 28 watts.
Intel Alder Lake-M:
i3-1215U: On Alder-Lake based mobile CPU with 2 performance cores and 4 efficient cores. The performance cores offer hyper threading, leading to 8 threads that can be processed. The CPU clocks from 0.9 to 4.4 GHz. The TDP is specified at 15 Watt.
i5-1235U: On Alder-Lake based mobile CPU with 2 performance cores and 8 efficient cores. The performance cores offer hyper threading, leading to 12 threads that can be processed. The CPU clocks from 0.9 to 4.4 GHz. The TDP is specified at 15 Watt.
AMD Lucienne (Zen 2, Ryzen 5000):
R5 5500U: A hexa-core APU designed for use in ultra-thin, upper mid-range laptops. The Ryzen features six Zen 2 CPU cores running at 2.1 GHz to 4.0 GHz alongside the Vega 7 graphics adapter (448 unified shaders running at up to 1,800 MHz). One could be forgiven for thinking Ryzen 5 5500U is a renamed Ryzen 5 4500U - which is not the case. Ryzen 5 5500U is most similar to Ryzen 5 4600U, the most noteworthy difference between the two being the faster iGPU model of the former.
AMD Mendocino (Zen 2, Ryzen 7020):
R3 7320U: Mobile Quad-Core APU using four Zen 2 cores clocked at 2.4 to 4.1 GHz and SMT (8 threads).
