60% I spent days testing Acer’s new 16-inch laptop — and sadly AI remains just a gimmick

The Acer Aspire 16 AI has decent everyday performance and a pleasing thin and light form that makes it both stylish and practical. The bright and clear OLED display on my review unit was also a highlight. However, it isn’t great for demanding workloads, and its AI features are oversold. Combined with some build quality issues and its relatively high price for top-tier models, the Aspire 16 AI starts to look like a less impressive proposition, with its rivals offering better all-round packages.

The Acer Aspire 16 AI is an excellent large-screen laptop with solid power, a fantastic port selection and a brilliant high-res OLED screen for a more modest price. It follows well in the footsteps of its smaller brother, although its battery life is a little disappointing against its rivals. The likes of the LG Gram Pro 16 and Asus Zenbook S 16 (2024) will provide you with more in the way of endurance, a bit more style and a lighter chassis, although they cost a fair bit more than Acer’s choice. If you want a big-screen laptop that has very few compromises and will get the job done for a good price, the Aspire 16 AI is well worth a look. AMD Radeon 860M: A fairly powerful RDNA 3.5 architecture iGPU that debuted in early 2025 and a direct successor to the Radeon 760M. Its 8 CUs/WGPs (512 unified shaders) run at up to 3 GHz. DX12 Ultimate, ray tracing, AI image generation and other modern features are all supported here, as are many popular video codecs including first and foremost AVC, HEVC, VP9 and AV1. Its gaming performance is good enough for playing 2024 games in low graphics settings.

Modern games should be playable with these graphics cards at low settings and resolutions. Casual gamers may be happy with these cards.
