Verdict - The ROG Zephyrus G14 is the fastest 14-inch device thanks to its GPU performance boost
Asus has equipped the new 2025 model of its ROG Zephyrus G14 with significantly faster GPU options and in doing so, it has eliminated one of the issues of its predecessor, which was only available with the RTX 4070 Laptop at best. The new RTX 5080 Laptop results in a significant leap in performance. However, its cooling has additionally needed to be adapted, which is why the laptop's case is 2 millimeters thicker at the back than previously. That being said, its fans are loud when gaming and its case gets relatively warm. The AMD chip's CPU performance is also very good.
The laptop's 120 Hz OLED panel is unchanged and continues to offer excellent picture quality with smooth movements, vibrant colors and fast response times. Its weak points are its somewhat low maximum brightness values (both SDR and HDR) and its PWM flickering—even if we noted quite a high frequency. Its battery life has gotten slightly better and there isn't much to complain about in terms of its connectivity, input devices or speakers.
Nevertheless, the new GPU options also bring us to a point of criticism, because if the manufacturer has already made the effort to install the RTX 5080 Laptop, we don't understand why Asus hasn't additionally released a model with the RTX 5090 Laptop. This would finally allow them to replace the old 2023 model with the RTX 4090 Laptop with regards to GPU performance, which the RTX 5080 Laptop can't always manage. The additional VRAM would also certainly be an advantage for some users.
With the two powerful GPU options available, namely the RTX 5070 Ti Laptop and the RTX 5080 Laptop, the new ROG Zephyrus G14 is currently pretty unrivaled, as the normal RTX 5070 Laptop is noticeably slower. We are curious to see whether other manufacturers, such as Razer, will follow suit.

Asus has updated the ROG Zephyrus G14, addressing one of the biggest criticisms of its predecessor, which had done without the fastest GPU options in favor of a slimmer design and was equipped with the RTX 4070 Laptop at best. The old 2023 model, on the other hand, was previously also available with the RTX 4090 Laptop. The new 2025 model has a slightly thicker case and combines the AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 with the new GeForce RTX 5080 Laptop. Buyers can now additionally go for 64 GB of RAM.
We tested the top-of-the-range model of the new ROG Zephyrus G14 G403 with the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370, the new RTX 5080 Laptop (maximum TGP 120 watts) and 64 GB RAM. Its OLED panel with a 2.8K resolution and a 120 Hz refresh rate has been carried over unchanged from its predecessor.
Specifications
Case - Metal unibody now 2 millimeters thicker
In general, the device's case design is the same as the 2024 model, including the slash lighting on the screen lid. The quality and finish of the unibody metal case are still impressive, but our dark gray model is quite sensitive to fingerprint marks. The white version is also available once more.
The big innovation is that the 2025 model comes in two different case variants. Models with the RTX 5070 Laptop use exactly the same one as in 2024, but the more powerful variants with the RTX 5070 Ti Laptop and the RTX 5080 Laptop are 2 millimeters thicker at the back. This is due to the improved cooling and slightly heftier fans to enable the higher power limits. Some additional changes have been made to its heatpipes and fan configuration. However, we will go into this in more detail later. The changes also result in a weight increase of around 100 grams (1.58 vs. 1.48 kilograms).
Connectivity - USB 4.0 & Wi-Fi 7
No changes have been made to its connectivity and you can expect all the important standards for everyday use. Users still have to do without Thunderbolt, but this isn't a big deal thanks to the device's USB 4.0 port. Because of the AMD chip's fast NPU, this is a Copilot+ laptop that supports Microsoft's advanced AI functions. The left USB-C port is connected via the iGPU, so you can connect an external monitor here without automatically activating the dedicated Nvidia GPU.
The Wi-Fi module supports Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4. In our test with our reference router from Asus, its transfer rates were very good and we noted no problems with signal quality. The laptop's 1080p webcam only takes average photos and features no shutter, but it supports Studio Effects. An IR camera for facial recognition via Windows Hello is on board, and the device's microSD card reader is still very fast.

Maintenance
Sustainability
Asus hasn't provided any information on the laptop's CO2 footprint or its use of recycled materials. Its packaging consists almost entirely of paper/cardboard.
Input devices - Excellent keyboard
The Asus laptop's input devices are unchanged and its keyboard (1.7-millimeter travel) continues to impress with a very precise and comfortable typing experience. This is one of the best keyboards on the laptop market. Its backlighting can be adjusted, but there is only one zone. The ClickPad feels nice and smooth and produces muffled, high-quality clicks. However, we noted a minimal amount of play in the left area, which made it feel a little rickety.
Display - 120 Hz, 2.8K OLED with G-Sync
No changes have been made to its display compared to the 2024 model, as it features the same panel from Samsung (ATNA40CU05-0), which is why we refer you to our review of the predecessor for a detailed description. The image quality of the reflective panel (no touchscreen) is still excellent and very accurate factory profiles are available for the P3 and sRGB color spaces. Its weak points include reflections, PWM flickering (albeit at a high frequency) and its somewhat low maximum brightness values (both SDR and HDR). Other OLED laptops offer more in this respect.

Performance - AMD Zen 5 & 64 GB RAM
Asus has once again gone for an AMD processor, but the maximum amount of RAM has been doubled to 64 GB in the 2025 model. However, it's still soldered-on RAM (LPDDR5x-8000).
Testing conditions
Asus offers all the familiar energy profiles (Quiet, Performance, Turbo) and we carried out the following benchmarks and measurements in Turbo mode. Performance mode is the maximum available in battery mode.
Energy profile | CPU TDP | CB 2024 Multi | GPU TGP | Time Spy Graphics | CP 2077 QHD Ultra | max. fan noise emissions |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Quiet | 65/35 watts | 1,103 points | 45 watts | 7,573 points | 39.7fps | 42 dB(A) |
Performance | 65/45 watts | 1,169 points | 95 watts | 14,971 points | 74.9fps | 52.1 dB(A) |
Turbo | 80 watts | 1,254 points | 110 watts | 16,644 points | 79.6fps | 54.4 dB(A) |
Battery (Performance) | 40/31 watts | 1,059 points | 43 watts | 6,559 points | 33fps | 36 dB(A) |
There is also a manual mode that can be used to increase the RTX 5080 Laptop's TGP to 120 watts. At the same time, there are three preset fan curves for both the CPU and the GPU but in our opinion, these aren't useful. Despite the higher power limits, the fans remain quieter even with the most aggressive preset fan curve selected—plus, the laptop's case gets a few degrees warmer under load and its performance doesn't remain stable, which means that its gaming performance is ultimately worse than when using Turbo mode. Of course, you can adjust the fan curves manually, but there should really already be a suitable preset where the device's performance remains stable.
Processor
The AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 features 12 Zen 5 cores and achieved very good performance values during our test thanks to its high power limit of 80 watts. Moreover, they remained stable under prolonged load. Within our comparison group, the new G14 came out on top and was on par with the Core Ultra 9 285H in the larger ROG Zephyrus G16, although its short-term consumption was as high as 100 watts in this case.

System performance
The new Zephyrus G14 also came out at the top of the system benchmarks, and the compact laptop proves to be a very responsive companion during everyday use. Only when switching the graphics card (e.g. when starting a game) did we note a brief hang, but this corresponds to the current state of the technology when relying on Advanced Optimus GPU switching.

Storage device
The Zephyrus G14 continues to feature an M.2 2280 SSD slot with a PCIe 4.0 connection. Our test device uses the 2 TB version of the WD SN740 (1.73 TB are available to the user), which achieved decent transfer rates during our test. In addition, its performance remained stable even under constant load, although there are also faster drives on the market. Further SSD benchmarks are listed here.

GPU performance
Our test device is fitted with the GeForce RTX 5080 Laptop (16 GB VRAM), which is the 110-watt version (85 watts + 25 watts Dynamic Boost). In manual mode, it even has access to up to 120 watts (95 + 25 watts). Of course, the full capabilities of the RTX 5080 Laptop (maximum 175 watts) can't be taken advantage of with this, and the Strix G16 was almost 20% faster in the benchmarks, for example.
Nevertheless, its performance upgrade compared to the 2024 G14 with the RTX 4070 Laptop is enormous (+31%), but the old 2023 model of the G14 with the RTX 4090 Laptop (125 watts) was still just ahead in almost all tests. It's a pity that Asus doesn't offer a model with the 5090 Laptop, although this would be easily possible with its TGP of 110 watts. In our GPU analysis, we saw that the RTX 5090 Laptop would be almost 14% faster than the RTX 5080 Laptop with a TGP of 115 watts, for example.
Its graphics performance remained completely stable under constant load, but the GPU can only consume a maximum of 43 watts in battery mode (-60 % in Time Spy Graphics).

Gaming performance
The laptop's gaming performance is excellent given its compact size, and there is currently no faster device in the 14-inch segment. Even the old G14 with the RTX 4090 Laptop was just overtaken in this scenario. The RTX 5080 Laptop can smoothly display all modern games on the screen in QHD resolution. As we have already seen in other tests, the GPU proved to be somewhat underchallenged in the 1080p tests and was much better suited to QHD resolution. Its gaming performance also remained completely stable.
Only with full ray tracing/path tracing will you have to resort to DLSS upscaling or even Frame Generation, which we tried out with the two games Cyberpunk 2077 and Alan Wake 2 in 2,560 x 1,600 pixels.

Emissions - Loud fans
Asus has significantly revised the device's cooling and a few changes have been made compared to the 2024 model (or the slower 2025 versions). The most important changes for the fast GPUs include a bigger main heatpipe (diameter now 8 instead of 6 millimeters), an additional heatpipe for the VRAM modules and the removal of the third fan. On the weaker models, this fan draws in fresh air via the keyboard area and then blows it over the heatpipes. The revised cooling system now uses two thicker fans, each of which also has a small opening to the inner area and thus guides cool air over the heatpipes.

Noise emissions
During everyday use, we would always recommend using Quiet mode, as the fans are then very often completely deactivated. In Turbo mode, on the other hand, there is always a background noise of around 29 dB(A), even when idling. The slightly pulsating behavior bothered us a little in this scenario. Under load, the laptop quickly reaches a very loud 54 dB(A), so you should definitely use headphones when gaming. Performance mode is not much better at 52 dB(A)—for the quietest results you would have to use Quiet mode (max. 42 dB(A)). There were no other electronic noises on our test device.

Temperature
We noted no temperature issues when performing simple tasks, but you shouldn't place the device on your thighs under high load. On the underside, we measured around 50 °C in the back area and even 51 °C on the top above the keyboard. However, the keyboard itself remains cooler, especially the important WASD area. In the stress test, the GPU stabilized at its full 85 watts, while the processor operated at 35 watts.

Power consumption
Its power consumption in idle mode is roughly the same as before, but the laptop's increased power limits make themselves known under load. We measured around 160-165 watts when gaming and its consumption stabilized at this level during the stress test, after briefly reaching 218 watts. However, no power has to be tapped from its battery, so the supplied 200 watt power supply is sufficient in size. A positive is the device's low consumption when switched off and in standby mode.
