Samsung leaves competition in the dust: best flip smartphone of 2026 is in its own class
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip8 is the king of flip smartphones in 2026, partly because there is no competition this year from Xiaomi or Oppo. Samsung not only offers the best overall package on the flip smartphone market but also stands out in terms of value for money. The price for this compact Samsung phone starts at around $1,200 (MSRP, available on Amazon.com), making it cheaper than a Motorola Razr 70 Plus.
However, in a direct comparison, the Razr 70 Plus comes across as a mid-range phone in many areas, whereas Samsung delivers a well-rounded premium flip phone. Even the significantly more expensive Motorola Razr 70 Ultra fails to impress with its test results when compared with the Galaxy Z Flip8.
The difference in class is evident in many areas of our review, not just in the chipset, which is already apparent from the specification sheet, or the feature set. The Galaxy Z Flip8 with the Exynos 2600 is not only up to twice as fast as the Razr 70 Plus with the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 in our benchmark tests, but it also features a USB 3.1 port, which is to be expected in this price range.

When it comes to audio quality, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip8 is also in a league of its own, even though the Samsung phone is only 6.1 millimeters thick when unfolded. We’ve taken a closer look at the differences in sound in this review summary.
Samsung’s transparent update policy further solidifies its dominance. Thanks to the extended software support period, the Flip8 will remain up to date for years to come - at least when it comes to security patches. Since Motorola only provides its top-of-the-line foldable smartphones with four years of security updates and three major Android updates, the Galaxy Z Flip8 is in a league of its own here as well.
