Leaker: Samsung will scrap Galaxy Z Flip 9, focus on high-end foldables

The successor to the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip7 ($639 on Amazon) will be officially unveiled on July 22, 2026. According to the latest information from the leaker Ice Universe, the Galaxy Z Flip8 could be the last smartphone in the series before Samsung discontinues the product line. As usual, such early rumors should be taken with a grain of salt.

Possible reasons for this change include the expanding product lineup and rising prices. With the Galaxy Z Fold8 and the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Samsung will soon offer two foldable flagship models with different display sizes. The wider, more compact Fold could therefore take over the role of the Galaxy Z Flip. According to rumors, the DRAM crisis is forcing Samsung to offer the Galaxy Z Flip8 with 256 GB of storage for €1,299 – €100 more than its direct predecessor. This puts the flip phone in direct competition with flagship smartphones like the Apple iPhone 17 Pro, though it offers significantly less in terms of cameras and battery life.

Even if the fate of the Galaxy Z Flip series is currently hanging in the balance, Samsung is likely to base its decision on whether to develop a Galaxy Z Flip9 not least on the sales figures of the Galaxy Z Flip8. As Android Authority notes, it’s also conceivable that Samsung might simply skip a generation and wait until prices for DRAM and NAND flash memory fall again in 2028 so it can offer a Galaxy Z Flip at a competitive price.
