Verdict - More of the same, but more expensive
The Lenovo ThinkPad X13 Gen 7 is still a very compact travel companion with good connectivity (WWAN ready), a sturdy chassis and long battery runtimes. You also get good performance from the AMD Ryzen 7 PRO 450 and the Radeon 860M, which is more powerful than the Intel Panther Lake iGPU in the Intel SKUs. That being said, the performance is basically identical to the previous Gen 6 model.
Since the chassis is still the same, you also have to live with the slightly wobbly hinges, soldered RAM as well as the slightly disappointing keyboard. This is a tough pill to swallow considering this is an X-series ThinkPad, but it is just not as good as on other ThinkPad models or competitors (especially EliteBook series from HP).
The equivalent Intel model offers two distinct advantages with up to 64 GB of memory and faster PCIe 5.0 SSDs, while AMD SKUs are limited to 32 GB RAM and PCIe 4.0 transfer rates. There is no difference in terms of screens and while the IPS panel with 100 % sRGB is decent for work, we would like to see an option with a higher refresh rate.

Cons
Price and Availability
Lenovo currently does not list the AMD of the ThinkPad X13 Gen 7 in its online shop, but you can configure the Intel SKU starting at $1699.
Specifications
Case, Connectivity and Input Devices
The chassis did not change compared to the previous ThinkPad X13 Gen 6, so you still get a very compact and lightweight subnotebook. While some models weigh less than 1 kg, our AMD review unit with pre-installed WWAN antennas tips the scale at 1.1 kg. While the chassis stability and build quality are excellent, we are still not happy with the slightly wobbly hinges. The keyboard also disappoints a bit and simply does not feel as good as on other ThinkPad models, despite the same 1.5 mm travel (1.35 mm for keys around the TrackPoint). Maintenance options include the M.2-2280 SSD, the WWAN module, the fan as well as the battery, while the memory is soldered.
Connectivity is once again strong with dual Thunderbolt 4 ports, Wi-Fi 7 (though limited to 160 MHz), optional 5G/LTE connectivity and a 5 MP webcam (with mechanical shutter and IR sensor).

Display - Matte IPS with 60 Hz
Lenovo only offers one matte IPS panel (1920 x 1200 pixels, 16:10) for the X13 Gen 7 AMD/Intel, but you can choose between a touch and a non-touch model. The subjective image quality suffers a bit due to the frequency of 60 Hz as well as the grainy image impression on brighter contents. The panel ID differs from the previous X13 Gen 6 and the new model manages slightly higher brightness values (~440 nits on average) as well as faster response times. The factory calibration is not great and suffers from color deviations as well as slight color cast towards blue/green, but our calibration fixed the issue and the panel can also handle image editing (sRGB is covered completely).

Processor Performance
The Ryzen AI 7 PRO 450 is just a minor upgrade from last year's Ryzen AI 7 PRO 350 with a slightly higher maximum clock (+100 MHz). As a result, the performance is very similar and this is hardly an upgrade at all with similar cooling capabilities (35W TDP). The overall level of performance is still very good and more than sufficient for most office tasks. The performance does not drop on battery power.

GPU and Gaming Performance
The Radeon 860M is identical to the previous version, so the graphics performance did not change. It is sufficient for most office-related tasks and the X13 can also handle some lighter gaming, and you can obviously attach an external GPU via Thunderbolt 4 at home. The graphics performance is about 20-30 % faster compared to the Panther Lake iGPU with 4 Xe3 cores you get with the Intel models of the ThinkPad X13.

System Noise
The fan is usually very quiet under light workloads. At maximum load, the single fan reaches around 40 dB(A) in Best Performance mode (34.6 dB(A) in Balanced mode & 27.5 dB(A) in Best Efficiency mode), which is audible, but not overly distracting. We did not hear any other electronic noises.

Temperature
Surface temperatures can get quite warm at up to 45 °C under maximum load for longer periods, which is definitely noticeably. Typing is still possible without any limitations and the surface temperatures in daily situations are much cooler. During the stress test, the TDP settles at 22 Watts.
(±) The maximum temperature on the upper side is 44.3 °C / 112 F, compared to the average of 35.9 °C / 97 F, ranging from 21.4 to 59 °C for the class Subnotebook.
(-) The bottom heats up to a maximum of 45.1 °C / 113 F, compared to the average of 39.2 °C / 103 F
(+) In idle usage, the average temperature for the upper side is 26 °C / 79 F, compared to the device average of 30.8 °C / 87 F.
(±) 3: The average temperature for the upper side is 36.3 °C / 97 F, compared to the average of 30.8 °C / 87 F for the class Subnotebook.
(+) The palmrests and touchpad are cooler than skin temperature with a maximum of 29 °C / 84.2 F and are therefore cool to the touch.
(±) The average temperature of the palmrest area of similar devices was 28.2 °C / 82.8 F (-0.8 °C / -1.4 F).
