GTA 6 trailers add PS5 pre-order links ignoring Xbox, as Microsoft disputes sales gap

IGN shared how its affiliate program showed a huge divide between GTA 6 PS5 and Xbox pre-orders. Microsoft rejected the report, claiming it was seeing record sales for the Rockstar title. However, an update to the game’s first and second trailers may widen any gap. They now have links to the PlayStation Store, ignoring the rival console.
Conspicuously absent Xbox links
MP1st noticed the change to the videos, which have a combined 441 million views on YouTube. Even though the last cinematic appeared in May 2025, they continue to draw interest. An exclusive affiliate link to Sony’s marketplace should boost already massive sales.
It’s also likely that the anticipated GTA 6 trailer #3 will only promote the PS5 version of the title. Fans had hoped a gameplay showcase would premiere when pre-orders opened on June 25th. While Rockstar unleashed a barrage of new screenshots, the wait continues.
Some supporters complain that Microsoft isn’t capitalizing on the game’s immense hype. Meanwhile, ahead of the November 19th release date, there have been more signs of a marketing deal between Take-Two and Sony. In its ads, the Japanese gaming giant says PlayStation consoles are the best way to play the open-world adventure.
A missed opportunity?
Take-Two may be prioritizing Sony, but its competitor isn’t powerless to promote GTA 6 pre-orders. The Xbox Store prominently features graphics for the standard and ultimate editions. Nevertheless, followers concerned over rumored studio closures and price increases argue the company could do more.
The IGN report showing PS5 sales outnumbering Xbox sales by as much as 8 to 1 only added to this frustration. It also prompted Microsoft to tell Windows Central that the figure “doesn’t represent pre-order data”. Admittedly, affiliate results from a single site provide only a partial glimpse of the global picture.
Other estimates suggest that nearly 3 times as many gamers own a current-gen PlayStation console as a Series X|S. Whether Sony is outperforming that ratio with the Rockstar game is unclear. Still, the latest revision to the GTA 6 trailers won’t quiet critics who believe it’s being marketed like a PS5 exclusive.
