In a move that many in the gaming community online consider an elaborate 'ragebait' scheme, one scalper has announced his intentions to 'corner' the digital preorder market for GTA VI. This is why things might not play out as expected for them.

A user on X claims to have withdrawn all of his 401(k) retirement savings to pre-order 500 copies of GTA VI as an investment, only to discover that the physical edition of GTA VI includes a digital download code. He planned to scalp and resell the copies at a huge markup once demand skyrocketed. However, many individuals on X have told him that the digital-code-only catch is something he overlooked, or perhaps played into for attention or “ragebaiting.”

The user, who goes by @AryanBundles on X, posted, “I took a risk in reselling. I withdrew money from my pension account and pre-ordered 500 copies of GTA VI. This is the most anticipated game of all time, and when it sells out, I’ll be ready to corner the market. By Christmas, this will yield 2–3x profit.”

However, when users pointed out that the physical edition of GTA VI will not come with discs, but rather a digital-only download code inside the box for both the Standard and Ultimate editions, he doubled down on his claims and said, “This is speculation. Take a chance.”

Skeptics continued to argue with the user on X, while he responded with lines like, “Fortune favors the bold, my friend. My 401(k) account says otherwise.”

Rumors are circulating that physical disc editions of GTA VI will be available a few months after launch. However, Rockstar has not officially announced any plans for post-launch physical discs containing the entire game, so this might never materialize.

A 'dumb scalper' or an elaborate troll attempt?

Many online viewers, considering the user’s responses, doubt whether the purchase was real or if he was simply playing an elaborate prank on the gaming community, calling it ‘ragebait’. Still, it is possible that the user truly misunderstood the nature of GTA VI’s release and is now in denial. The screenshots shared by the user showed a pre-confirmation screen totaling $54,720 (including tax) for 500 units of the GTA VI Ultimate Edition before any final charges were applied.

Nonetheless, many users still claim it is an incomplete receipt and conclude that this is elaborate ragebait. Pre-orders for GTA VI’s Standard and Ultimate Editions went live on June 25, and pre-loading will be available on November 12, 2026, a week in advance, so players can enjoy the game when it officially releases on November 19, 2026, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S|X.
