Deal | If you find Forza too casual, this hardcore racing sim is now $4 on Steam

Assetto Corsa Competizione is aimed at players who want to experience GT racing as authentically as possible. Anyone who has held off because of the regular price of around $40 now has the best opportunity yet. During the Steam Summer Sale, the price has dropped by 90% for the first time, bringing Competizione down to around $4. According to SteamDB, previous discounts had not exceeded 75%.
Anyone wondering how Assetto Corsa Competizione differs from the original Assetto Corsa will find the answer in its much narrower focus. While Assetto Corsa covers almost the entire spectrum of motorsport with street cars, formula cars and mods, Competizione is built almost entirely around official GT racing. Instead of dozens of racing classes, players get licensed GT2, GT3 and GT4 cars, along with the corresponding tracks from the GT World Challenge. At their core, however, both titles from Kunos Simulazioni remain uncompromisingly realistic racing simulations, where clean braking points, precise racing lines and controlled use of throttle, tires and vehicle weight are crucial.

On Steam, Assetto Corsa Competizione has around 46,000 reviews with a very strong average rating of 92%. On Metacritic, the picture is somewhat weaker, with a Metascore of 77 and a User Score of 7.4. That does not mean Competizione is a bad racing simulation. Much of the criticism focuses on the demanding entry point and the comparatively narrow scope beyond GT racing. In addition, many players use a sim-racing wheel, such as the Logitech G G29 (available on Amazon for $300), and anyone without one is clearly at a disadvantage. For sim-racing fans who do not yet own the game, however, the current all-time-low deal should still be worth every cent.
