The current camera flagships from China, most of which are expected in Europe soon, appear to be very similar in terms of camera specs. All have three cameras with a periscope telephoto lens, but there are still differences in the details beyond the Leica/Zeiss/Hasselblad branding, as a Chinese blogger has now summarized.

The Xiaomi 17 Pro and Xiaomi 17 Pro Max have already officially launched in China, with the rest to follow next week. Time to take a look at how the cameras of the three soon-to-be-launched flagship cameras differ from the Leica camera in the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max, whose sensor technology is already known in detail. Chinese blogger and leaker Digital Chat Station has posted a list of technical details about the cameras of four current flagship cameras on Weibo for comparison, but without mentioning the specific names of the four candidates.

The mystery is quite easy to solve, however, if we review the leaks of the past few weeks. One thing that isn't taken into account in the specs comparison is the 50 MP ultra-wide-angle lens, which is quite "cute" in all cases, as one comment notes. Of course, the individual style of the photos is also not taken into account, which is now strongly influenced by the camera partners of Xiaomi, Vivo, Oppo and soon Realme, namely Leica, Zeiss, Hasselblad and Ricoh GR. Anyone who wants to match the specs to the camera flagships themselves still has the opportunity to do so before we explain below the screenshot.

Ultra-dynamic main camera in all cases

A major advantage of all candidates compared to their respective predecessors is the ultra-dynamic sensor technology behind the main camera. These include sensors such as the Sony LYT-828, which generates 10.5 f-stops of dynamic range for the first time and is thus designed to produce better HDR images, for example, in backlighting. With the exception of the Honor Magic8 Pro with its 1/1.31-inch main camera, all candidates use a 1/1.28-inch sensor. Xiaomi has the SC590XS from SmartSens under the Xiaomi designation Light Hunter 950L, while Vivo and Oppo both use the aforementioned Sony sensor.

As can be seen from the comparison below, the biggest differences are mainly found in the periscope telephoto lens. Here, the Vivo X300 Pro and Honor Magic8 Pro offer the largest sensor, but with a smaller aperture than Oppo, which has a slightly smaller 200 MP sensor but an F/2.1 aperture. The equivalent focal lengths vary greatly: 70mm for Oppo, 85mm for Vivo and Honor, and 115mm for the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max, which also has the smallest sensor by far. The Oppo Find X9 Pro also has a fourth sensor on board in the form of a color sensor.
