We’ve seen quite a number of collaborations between iconic camera makers and emerging Chinese smartphone brands, including the Leica-Xiaomi, Hasselblad-Oppo and Zeiss-Vivo pairings. Last week, Ricoh GR and Realme (formerly a sub-brand of Oppo) officially announced their partnership, which could prove to be the most compelling one yet. In a video detailing the history of their cooperation, which quietly began four years ago, Realme vice-president Chase Xu and Ricoh general manager Kazunobu Saiki emphasised that this alliance between two culturally distinct teams from Japan and China goes far beyond a simple marketing strategy. For instance, the upcoming Realme GT8 Pro will feature five Ricoh GR “signature tones” along with classic focal lengths inspired by older Ricoh cameras.
28/40 mm focal lengths and anti-glare lens
It is likely that the Realme GT8 Pro’s main camera will retain a 23 mm lens whilst offering the option of switching to 28 mm or 40 mm (introduced in the Ricoh GR IIIx) via the camera app. These two focal lengths are particularly well suited to street photography, an area where Ricoh GR traditionally carries substantial authority. A viewfinder mode will also be included. In official teasers recently shared on Weibo and X, Realme revealed that the GT8 Pro is equipped with an “anti-glare” lens – similar to the Zeiss T* coating found on Vivo flagships – to reduce unwanted artefacts like reflections and deliver detailed and vibrant snapshots.
More sample photos from Realme GT8 Pro's camera
Finally, we have found even more sample photos taken with the Realme GT8 Pro’s Ricoh camera, all of which originated from Weibo. Additional images had already appeared last week. Though highly anticipated thanks to its Ricoh GR tuning, the flagship device has yet to receive an official release date. The GT8 Pro is expected to launch this month in China, with a global rollout likely to follow soon given Realme’s international marketing campaign.
