Realme originally started out as a low-cost offshoot of the Oppo brand, but has been operating independently for some time now, as demonstrated in recent days by the official announcement of its partnership with Ricoh GR. This puts Realme in direct competition not only with the successful Xiaomi-Leica duo and the Vivo-Zeiss collaboration, but also with the Oppo-Hasselblad partnership, especially since the three major camera heavyweights from Europe will soon have to compete with the iconic style of the Japanese Ricoh cameras.
Five Ricoh GR IV signature tones on the Realme GT 8 Pro
The Ricoh GR IV compact camera is also enjoying great popularity among a young audience, not least due to its classic film look, which can be customized using several photo styles or signature tones. Five of these styles will also be available on the GT 8 Pro camera, as Realme announced today via X and via Chinese network Weibo.
Photos reveal the similarity between the Realme GT 8 Pro and the Ricoh GR IV
Apart from the standard setting for balanced images, there will be two different black and white styles: Ricoh's typical high-contrast B&W tone and the more moderate monotone B&W style. Colorful photos, on the other hand, can be created with the very color-intensive Positive style or the more subdued Negative setting, which is more reminiscent of retro films. To give you an idea of what this might look like, Realme has shared some impressive photos from the Realme GT8 Pro's camera on Weibo, which we have embedded below.
As always with official camera samples, a little skepticism is warranted. Apart from isolated cases of fraud by some manufacturers, professional photographers naturally ensure the most perfect-looking shots. Nevertheless, the photos demonstrate that the Realme GT 8 Pro camera has a unique look and, regardless of its technical specifications, will be a worthy rival to the Xiaomi 17 Pro, the Vivo X300 Pro and the Oppo Find X9 Pro.
Street photography: Teaser video for the Realme GT8 Pro camera
The video below features more photos, as well as a few shots of the Realme GT8 Pro itself and the camera app with the option of selecting the camera styles mentioned above. Photographers who specialize in street photography in particular may find the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 flagship from Realme an exciting smartphone camera. A global launch date for the Realme GT 8 Pro has already been leaked, but not yet officially confirmed.
What the Realme GT 8 Pro camera looks like
We've embedded a few screenshots from the video below. The camera design doesn't quite match the previously leaked look, although the external module is supposedly replaceable. At least in the video, it's a round camera unit at the top left corner of the back, which appears quite thick and consists of two large round cameras on the top and the square periscope telephoto lens below.
