Samsung has just unveiled another mid-range smartphone, the Galaxy M17 5G, which is based on the Galaxy A17 5G. The device features a typical Samsung design with a pill-shaped camera module and a flat frame that has a bulge for the volume buttons and lock button. The display with its notch instead of a punch hole and relatively wide chin at the bottom are clear indications of the smartphone's affordable price.
The Galaxy M17 5G houses a Samsung Exynos 1330, a 5 nm ARM chip from 2023 that has two Cortex-A78 performance cores with boost clock speeds of up to 2.4 GHz and six Cortex-A55 efficiency cores. Samsung pairs the chip with 4 GB to 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of flash storage. The 6.7-inch display is an AMOLED panel that has a resolution of 1,080p+ and a frame rate of 90 Hz.
Samsung installs a 5,000 mAh battery that can be charged via USB-C at up to 25 watts. The Galaxy M17 5G features a 13 MP selfie camera, a 50 MP main camera with optical image stabilization (OIS), a 5 MP ultra-wide-angle camera, and a 2 MP macro camera. The display is protected against scratches by robust Gorilla Glass Victus. The casing is IP54 certified, meaning it's only splash-proof, but not completely waterproof. Samsung ships the affordable mid-range smartphone with Android 15 and guarantees six major Android updates and six years of security patches.
Price and availability
The Samsung Galaxy M17 5G will initially launch in India, where the smartphone will be available starting October 13 at prices starting at INR 12,499 (approximately $140). Details about a possible international launch are still pending.
