Xiaomi 17 Ultra: Zoom camera details of Leica optics revealed

More and more details are emerging about the rumored optical zoom camera in the Xiaomi 17 Ultra, most of which are based on information from Chinese leaker Digital Chat Station, who is considered very reliable and has often revealed accurate details months prior to the launch of a new smartphone. Whether he is indeed right about the Xiaomi 17 Ultra will likely be revealed as early as December or January, as the successor to the Xiaomi 15 Ultra is expected to launch earlier in China now that the certification phase has already begun.

It should be noted, however, that it still remains unclear whether Xiaomi will install a triple-camera or a quad-camera in the Xiaomi 17 Ultra. A fairly reliable code leak a few weeks ago clearly indicated four sensors on the back, which doesn't quite align with rumors about a zoom camera with a variable focal length between 70 and 100 mm that resurfaced just a few days ago. Some leakers assume that this is an external zoom lens that docks onto one of the two Xiaomi 17 Ultra models, similar to but far more powerful than the teleconverters for the Oppo Find X9 Pro and Vivo X300 Pro.

The leaker in question has now revealed another detail about this potential 200 MP optical zoom solution with Leica optics: the aperture values ​​at both ends of the focal length range. According to the leaker, an aperture of f/2.3 can be expected at the equivalent 70mm focal length and f/3.0 at 100mm, a typical characteristic of less expensive zoom lenses that allow less light to pass through as the focal length increases. The text also suggests that this might be an internal periscope lens built into the Xiaomi 17 Ultra, similar to the one in the Sony Xperia 1 VII. This information refers to a current test device, so changes are still possible before the launch.
