Snapdragon flagship SoC powered phone with massive 9,000 mAh battery could arrive soon

Smartphone batteries are reaching new heights, at least when it comes to Chinese manufacturers. Brands like OnePlus, Xiaomi, Vivo, and others have surpassed the 7,000 mAh mark and if the latest leak turns out to be accurate, we could soon have a 9,000 mAh Android phone that is powered by a flagship Snapdragon SoC.

Known leaker Digital Chat Station posted on Weibo that they recently got their hands on a “Snapdragon 8 flagship performance phone” that packs around a 9,000 mAh battery. While the leaker did not mention exactly which SoC or what phone this is, fans believe it is the Honor GT2 or the GT2 Pro. This falls in line with previous leaks of the Honor GT2 being backed by an 8,800 mAh battery. Notably, the GT series is typically for the Chinese market and does not reach global audiences.

As for the Soc, it is unlikely that the Honor GT2 will be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip, even though the leaker mentions a flagship Snapdragon processor. Seeing as how the Honor GT came with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, it is more likely that the successor will carry the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5, the non-elite SoC. This chip was announced alongside the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 and will be present in a more-budget friendly OnePlus phone as well.

As of now, Honor has not shared any information on the GT2 series so it is unclear when this massive battery will make it to the general public. There are other brands like Ulefone and Oukitel that have smartphones with over 10,000 mAh, but they are relatively bulky and of the more rugged variety. Moreover, Realme has showcased a concept phone with a 15,000 mAh battery but it is unclear if and when that will come into mass production.
